Here we report the first observation of superconductivity in the AB2X4-type ternary telluride CuIr2Te4, which is synthesized by a solid-state method in an evacuated quartz jacket. It adopts a disordered trigonal structure with space group P3m1 (No. 164), which embodies a two-dimensional IrTe2 layers and intercalated by Cu between the layers. We use a combination of experimental and first principles calculation analysis to look insight into the structural and physical properties. CuIr2Te4 consistently exhibited a bulk superconductivity transition at 2.5 K in electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. Resistivity and magnetization measurements suggest a charge density wave transition (TCDW = 250 K) coexists in CuIr2Te4, which further signify the coexistence of superconductivity and CDW in the ternary telluride chalcogenide CuIr2Te4. Our discovery of the new CDW-bearing superconductor CuIr2Te4 opens a door for experimental and theoretical studies of the interplay between CDW and superconductivity quantum state in the condensed matter field.

Here we report the effect of structural and superconductivity properties on Ru doped CuIr2Te4 telluride chalcogenide. XRD results suggest that the CuIr2-xRuxTe4 maintain the disordered trigonal structure with space group P3m1 (No. 164) for x less tha n 0.3. The lattice constants, a and c, both decrease with increasing Ru content. Temperature-dependent resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific-heat measurements are performed to characterize the superconducting properties systematically. Our results suggest that the optimal doping level for superconductivity in CuIr2-xRuxTe4 is x = 0.05, where Tc is 2.79 K with the Sommerfeld constant gamma of 11.52 mJ mol-1 K-2 and the specific-heat anomaly at the superconducting transition, is approximately 1.51, which is higher than the BCS value of 1.43, indicating CuIr1.95Ru0.05Te4 is a strongly electron-phonon coupled superconductor. The values of lower critical filed and upper critical field calculated from isothermal magnetization and magneto-transport measurements are 0.98 KOe and 2.47 KOe respectively, signifying that the compound is clearly a type-II superconductor. Finally, a dome-like shape superconducting Tcs vs. x content phase diagram is established, where the charge density wave disappears at x = 0.03 while superconducting transition temperature (Tc) rises until it reaches its peak at x = 0.05, then, with decreasing when x reaches 0.3. This feature of the competition between CDW and the superconductivity could be caused by tuning the Fermi surface and density of states with Ru chemical doping.
Magnetically mediated Cooper pairing is generally regarded as a key to establish the unified mechanism of unconventional superconductivity. One crucial evidence is the neutron spin resonance arising in the superconducting state, which is commonly int erpreted as a spin-exciton from collective particle-hole excitations confined below the superconducting pair-breaking gap ($2Delta$). Here, on the basis of inelastic neutron scattering measurements on a quasi-two-dimensional iron-based superconductor KCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$, we have discovered a two-dimensional spin resonant mode with downward dispersions, a behavior closely resembling the low branch of the hour-glass-type spin resonance in cuprates. The resonant intensity is predominant by two broad incommensurate peaks near $Q=$(0.5, 0.5) with a sharp energy peak at $E_R=16$ meV. The overall energy dispersion of the mode exceeds the measured maximum total gap $Delta_{rm tot}=|Delta_k|+|Delta_{k+Q}|$. These experimental results deeply challenge the conventional understanding of the resonance modes as magnetic excitons regardless of underlining pairing symmetry schemes, and it also points out that when the iron-based superconductivity becomes very quasi-two-dimensional, the electronic behaviors are similar to those in cuprates.
Electron-doped TiNCl is a superconductor, for which exotic mechanisms of the superconductivity have been discussed. However, difficulty in preparing large single-phase samples has prevented the direct observation of its electronic structure and how t hat changes with electron doping. In this study, micro-photoemission spectroscopy ({mu}-PES) was used to reveal the electronic structures of TiNCl and Na-intercalated TiNCl (Na-TiNCl). Comparison of Ti 2p core-level spectra shows the enhancement of a spectral feature in Na-TiNCl that suggests an increase in its metallic character. This indicates the introduction of electron carriers to the TiNCl layers. Although the overall valence band electronic structure of parent TiNCl could be reproduced by first-principle calculations, that of Na-TiNCl showed a marked deviation from the rigid band model near the Fermi level (EF). The spectral shape observed near EF of Na-TiNCl was found to be similar to a result in early transition metal oxides that has been attributed to the effect of strong electron correlation. The present study also demonstrated the usefulness of {mu}-PES to obtain reliable electronic structure data for samples that are difficult to make at large sizes.
Here we report the discovery of the first ternary molybdenum pnictide based superconductor K2Mo3As3. Polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals a quasi-one-dimensional hexagonal crystal structure with (Mo3As3)2- linear chains separated by K+ ions, similar as previously reported K2Cr3As3, with the space group of P-6m2 (No. 187) and the refined lattice parameters a = 10.145(5) {AA} and c = 4.453(8) {AA}. Electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements exhibit bulk superconductivity with the onset Tc at 10.4 K in K2Mo3As3 which is higher than the isostructural Cr-based superconductors. Being the same group VIB transition elements and with similar structural motifs, these Cr and Mo based superconductors may share some common underlying origins for the occurrence of superconductivity and need more investigations to uncover the electron pairing within a quasi-one-dimensional chain structure.

By replacing the alkali element in the newly discovered K2Mo3As3 superconductor, we successfully synthesized ternary molybdenum pnictides Rb2Mo3As3 and Cs2Mo3As3 through solid state reaction method. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the same quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) hexagonal crystal structure and space group of P-6m2 (No. 187) as K2Mo3As3. The refined lattice parameters are a = 10.432 (1) {AA}, c = 4.4615 (6) {AA} for Rb2Mo3As3 and a = 10.7405 (6) {AA}, c = 4.4654 (5) {AA} for Cs2Mo3As3. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility characterizations exhibit the occurrence of superconductivity in both compounds with the onset Tc at 10.6 K and 11.5 K for Rb2Mo3As3 and Cs2Mo3As3 respectively, which exhibit weak negative chemical pressure effect in these A2Mo3As3 (A = K, Rb, Cs) superconductors contrary to the isostructural A2Cr3As3 superconductors. More interestingly, the Cs2Mo3As3 superconductor exhibits much higher upper critical field around 60 T at zero temperature. The discovery of these MoAs/CrAs-based superconductors provide a unique platform for the study of exotic superconductivity correlated with both 3d and 4d electrons in these Q1D compounds.
