A proposal for a magnetic quantum processor that consists of individual molecular spins coupled to superconducting coplanar resonators and transmission lines is carefully examined. We derive a simple magnetic quantum electrodynamics Hamiltonian to describe the underlying physics. It is shown that these hybrid devices can perform arbitrary operations on each spin qubit and induce tunable interactions between any pair of them. The combination of these two operations ensures that the processor can perform universal quantum computations. The feasibility of this proposal is critically discussed using the results of realistic calculations, based on parameters of existing devices and molecular qubits. These results show that the proposal is feasible, provided that molecules with sufficiently long coherence times can be developed and accurately integrated into specific areas of the device. This architecture has an enormous potential for scaling up quantum computation thanks to the microscopic nature of the individual constituents, the molecules, and the possibility of using their internal spin degrees of freedom.

Quantum simulators are controllable systems that can be used to simulate other quantum systems. Here we focus on the dynamics of a chain of molecular qubits with interposed antiferromagnetic dimers. We theoretically show that its dynamics can be cont rolled by means of uniform magnetic pulses and used to mimic the evolution of other quantum systems, including fermionic ones. We propose two proof-of-principle experiments, based on the simulation of the Ising model in transverse field and of the quantum tunneling of the magnetization in a spin-1 system.
Among the factors determining the quantum coherence of the spin in molecular magnets is the presence and the nature of nuclear spins in the molecule. We have explored modifying the nuclear spin environment in Cr$_7$Ni-based molecular nanomagnets by r eplacing hydrogen atoms with deuterium or the halogen atoms, fluorine or chlorine. We find that the spin coherence, studied at low temperatures by pulsed electron spin resonance, is modified by a range of factors, including nuclear spin and magnetic moment, changes in dynamics owing to nuclear mass, and molecular morphology changes.

We study the energy level structures of the defective graphane lattice, where a carbon dimer defect is created by removing the hydrogen atoms on two nearest-neighbor carbon sites. Robust defect states emerge inside the bulk insulating gap of graphane . While for the stoichiometric half-filled system there are two doubly degenerate defect levels, there are four nondegenerate and spin-polarized in-gap defect levels in the system with one electron less than half filling. A universal set of quantum gates can be realized in the defective graphane lattice, by triggering resonant transitions among the defect states via optical pulses and emph{ac} magnetic fields. The sizable energy separation between the occupied and the empty in-gap states enables precise control at room temperature. The spatial locality of the in-gap states implies a qubit network of extremely high areal density. Based on these results, we propose that graphane as a unique platform could be used to construct the future all-purpose quantum computers.

We demonstrate a 12 quantum dot device fabricated on an undoped Si/SiGe heterostructure as a proof-of-concept for a scalable, linear gate architecture for semiconductor quantum dots. The device consists of 9 quantum dots in a linear array and 3 singl e quantum dot charge sensors. We show reproducible single quantum dot charging and orbital energies, with standard deviations less than 20% relative to the mean across the 9 dot array. The single quantum dot charge sensors have a charge sensitivity of 8.2 x 10^{-4} e/root(Hz) and allow the investigation of real-time charge dynamics. As a demonstration of the versatility of this device, we use single-shot readout to measure a spin relaxation time T1 = 170 ms at a magnetic field B = 1 T. By reconfiguring the device, we form two capacitively coupled double quantum dots and extract a mutual charging energy of 200 microeV, which indicates that 50 GHz two-qubit gate operation speeds are feasible.
Here, we propose a way to control the interaction between qubits with always-on Ising interaction. Unlike the standard method to change the interaction strength with unitary operations, we fully make use of non-unitary properties of projective measur ements so that we can effectively turn the interaction on or off via feedforward. Our scheme is useful to generate two- or three-dimensional cluster states that are universal resources for fault-tolerant quantum computation with this scheme, and it provides an alternative way to realize a scalable quantum pro
