In this paper we calculate the nonlinear susceptibility and the resonant Raman cross section for the paramagnetic phase of the ferromagnetic Quantum Ising model in one dimension. In this region the spectrum of the Ising model has a gap $m$. The Raman cross section has a strong singularity when the energy of the outgoing photon is at the spectral gap $omega_{f} approx m$ and a square root threshold when the frequency difference between the incident and outgoing photons $omega_{i} -omega_{f} approx 2m$. The latter feature reflects the fermionic nature of the Ising model excitations.

Spin noise spectroscopy with a single laser beam is demonstrated theoretically to provide a direct probe of the spatial correlations of cold fermionic gases. We show how the generic many-body phenomena of anti-bunching, pairing, antiferromagnetic, an d algebraic spin liquid correlations can be revealed by measuring the spin noise as a function of laser width, temperature, and frequency.

We present a theoretical treatment of coherent light scattering from an interacting 1D Bose gas at finite temperatures. We show how this can provide a nondestructive measurement of the atomic system states. The equilibrium states are determined by th e temperature and interaction strength, and are characterized by the spatial density-density correlation function. We show how this correlation function is encoded in the angular distribution of the fluctuations of the scattered light intensity, thus providing a sensitive, quantitative probe of the density-density correlation function and therefore the quantum state of the gas.
Circular dichroism spectroscopy is an essential technique for understanding molecular structure and magnetic materials, but spatial resolution is limited by the wavelength of light, and sensitivity sufficient for single-molecule spectroscopy is chall enging. We demonstrate that electrons can efficiently measure the interaction between circularly polarized light and chiral materials with deeply sub-wavelength resolution. By scanning a nanometer-sized focused electron beam across an optically-excited chiral nanostructure and measuring the electron energy spectrum at each probe position, we produce a high-spatial-resolution map of near-field dichroism. This technique offers a nanoscale view of a fundamental symmetry and could be employed as photon staining to increase biomolecular material contrast in electron microscopy.
Single crystal magnetic studies combined with a theoretical analysis show that cancellation of the magnetic moments in the trinuclear Dy3+ cluster [Dy3(OH)2L3Cl(H2O)5]Cl3, resulting in a non-magnetic ground doublet, originates from the non-collineari ty of the single ion easy axes of magnetization of the Dy3+ ions that lie in the plane of the triangle at 120 (deg.) one from each other. This gives rise to a peculiar chiral nature of the ground non-magnetic doublet and to slow relaxation of the magnetization with abrupt accelerations at the crossings of the discrete energy levels.
We consider phase separation on the strip for the two-dimensional Ising model in the near-critical region. Within the framework of field theory, we find exact analytic results for certain two- and three-point correlation functions of the order parame ter field. The analytic results for order parameter correlations, energy density profile, subleading corrections and passage probability density of the interface are confirmed by accurate Monte Carlo simulations we performed.
