We present temperature dependences of the large and the small superconducting gaps measured directly by SnS-Andreev spectroscopy in various Fe-based superconductors and MgB$_2$. The experimental $Delta_{L,S}(T)$ are well-fitted with a two-gap model based on Moskalenko and Suhl system of equations (supplemented with a BCS-integral renormalization). From the the fitting procedure, we estimate the key attribute of superconducting state textemdash relative electron-boson coupling constants and eigen BCS-ratios for both condensates. Our results evidence for a driving role of a strong intraband coupling in the bands with the large gap, whereas interband coupling is rather weak for all the superconductors under study.

A model of charged hole-pair bosons, with long range Coulomb interactions and very weak interlayer coupling, is used to calculate the order parameter -Phi- of underdoped cuprates. Model parameters are extracted from experimental superfluid densities and plasma frequencies. The temperature dependence -Phi(T)- is characterized by a trapezoidal shape. At low temperatures, it declines slowly due to harmonic phase fluctuations which are suppressed by anisotropic plasma gaps. Above the single layer Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) temperature, Phi(T) falls rapidly toward the three dimensional transition temperature. The theoretical curves are compared to c-axis superfluid density data by H. Kitano et al., (J. Low Temp. Phys. 117, 1241 (1999)) and to the -transverse nodal velocity- measured by angular resolved photoemmission spectra on BSCCO samples by W.S. Lee et al., (Nature 450, 81 (2007)), and by A. Kanigel, et al., (Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 157001 (2007)).

A two-band model with repulsive interband coupling and interband {it transport} (potential) scattering is considered to elucidate their effects on material properties. In agreement with previous work, we find that the bands order parameters $Delta_{1 ,2}$ differ and the large is at the band with a smaller normal density of states (DOS), $N_{n2}<N_{n1}$. However, the bands energy gaps, as determined by the energy dependence of the DOS, are equal due to scattering. For each temperature, the gaps turn zero at a certain critical interband scattering rate, i.e. for strong enough scattering the model material becomes gappless. In the gapless state, the DOS at the band 2 is close to the normal state value, whereas at the band 1 it has a V-shape with non-zero minimum. When the normal bands DOS are mismatched, $N_{n1} e N_{n2}$, the critical temperature $T_c$ is suppressed even in the absence of interband scattering, $T_c(N_{n1})$ has a dome-like shape. With increasing interband scattering, the London penetration depth at low temperatures evolves from being exponentially flat to the power-law and even to near linear behavior in the gapless state, the latter being easily misinterpreted as caused by order parameter nodes.

The symmetry operations of the crystal groups relevant for the high temperature superconductors HgBa2CuO4+x (Hg1201), YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO), and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x (BSCCO) are elucidated. The allowable combinations of the superconducting order parameter (OP) components are presented for both the angular momentum and lattice representations. For tetragonal Hg1201, the spin singlet OP components are composed from four sets of compatible basis functions, which combine to give the generalized s-, dx2-y2-, dxy-, and gxy(x2-y2)- wave OPs. In YBCO, elements of s- and dx2-y2- wave sets are compatible, but in BSCCO, elements of s- and dxy- wave sets are compatible. The Josephson critical current density JcJ across c-axis twist junctions in the vicinity of Tc is then evaluated as a function of the twist angle phi0, for each allowable OP combination, for both coherent and incoherent tunneling. Recent experiments of Li et al. demonstrated the independence of JcJ(phi0)/JcS upon phi0 at and below Tc, where JcS is the critical current density of a constituent single crystal. These experiments are shown to be consistent with an OP containing an s-wave component, but inconsistent with an OP containing the purported dx2-y2-wave component. In addition, they demonstrate that the interlayer tunneling across untwisted layers in single crystal BSCCO is entirely incoherent. We propose a new type of tricrystal experiment using single crystal c-axis twist junctions, that does not employ substrate grain boundaries.
The aim of this model study of the electron-phonon coupling in graphene was to find out about the relative importance of the inter- and intraband scattering and which phonon modes are the most active. This was achieved by analyzing the electron-phono n matrix element of the carbon dimer in the unit cell. We found that for the intra molecular orbital matrix elements the longitudinal optical phonon mode is the active phonon mode. The matrix element corresponding to sigma to sigma is greater than the matrix element for pi to pi . The inter molecular orbital scattering pi to sigma is driven by the out-of-plane acoustic phonon mode, while the out-of-plane optical mode does not contribute for symmetry reasons. We found the unexpected result that the magnitude of matrix element of the inter molecular orbital scattering pi to sigmat exceeds the intra molecular orbital scattering pi to pi . These results indicate that the in general not considered inter-band scattering has to be taken into account when analyzing e.g. photo-hole lifetimes and the electron-phonon coupling constant ?from photoemission data of graphene.
We present temperature dependences of the upper critical magnetic field and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter for a ternary boride superconductor Li_2Pd_3B obtained from magnetization measurements. A specially developed scaling approach was used for the data analysis. The resulting H_c2(T) curve turns out to be surprisingly close to predictions of the BCS theory. The magnetic field penetration depth, evaluated in this work, is in excellent agreement with recent muon-spin-rotation experiments. We consider this agreement as an important proof of the validity of our approach.
