We report the discovery of a relic Giant Radio Galaxy (GRG) J021659-044920 at redshift $z sim 1.3$ that exhibits large-scale extended, nearly co-spatial, radio and X-ray emission from radio lobes, but no detection of Active Galactic Nuclei core, jets and hotspots. The total angular extent of the GRG at the observed frame 0.325 GHz, using Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope observations is found to be ${sim}$ 2.4 arcmin, that corresponds to a total projected linear size of $sim$ 1.2 Mpc. The integrated radio spectrum between 0.240 and 1.4 GHz shows high spectral curvature (${alpha}_{rm 0.610~GHz}^{rm 1.4~GHz} - {alpha}_{rm 0.240~GHz}^{rm 0.325~GHz}$ $>$ 1.19) with sharp steepening above 0.325 GHz, consistent with relic radio emission that is $sim$ 8 $times$ 10$^{6}$ yr old. The radio spectral index map between observed frame 0.325 and 1.4~GHz for the two lobes varies from 1.4 to 2.5 with the steepening trend from outer-end to inner-end, indicating backflow of plasma in the lobes. The extended X-ray emission characterized by an absorbed power-law with photon index $sim$ 1.86 favours inverse-Compton scattering of the Cosmic Microwave Background (ICCMB) photons as the plausible origin. Using both X-ray and radio fluxes under the assumption of ICCMB we estimate the magnetic field in the lobes to be 3.3 $mu$G. The magnetic field estimate based on energy equipartition is $sim$ 3.5 $mu$G. Our work presents a case study of a rare example of a GRG caught in dying phase in the distant Universe.

Recently, Saxena et al. (2018) reported the discovery of a possible radio galaxy, J1530$+$1049 at a redshift of z=5.72. We observed the source with the European Very Long Baseline Interferometry Network at $1.7$ GHz. We detected two faint radio featu res with a separation of $sim 400$ mas. The radio power calculated from the VLA flux density by Saxena et al. (2018), and the projected source size derived from our EVN data place J1530$+$1049 among the medium-sized symmetric objects (MSOs) which are thought to be young counterparts of radio galaxies (An and Baan 2012). Thus, our finding is consistent with a radio galaxy in an early phase of its evolution as proposed by Saxena et al. (2018).

We present supporting evidence for the first association of a Fermi source, 3FGLJ1330.0-3818, with the FR0 radio galaxy Tol1326-379. FR0s represent the majority of the local radio loud AGN population but their nature is still unclear. They share the same properties of FRIs from the point of view of the nuclear and host properties, but they show a large deficit of extended radio emission. Here we show that FR0s can emit photons at very high energies. Tol1326-379 has a GeV luminosity of $L_{>1~{rm GeV}} sim 2times10^{42}$ erg s$^{-1}$, typical of FRIs, but with a steeper $gamma$-ray spectrum ($Gamma=2.78pm 0.14$). This could be related to the intrinsic jet properties but also to a different viewing angle.

In the past few years, some studies claimed that annihilating dark matter with mass $sim 10-100$ GeV can explain the GeV gamma-ray excess in our Galaxy. However, recent analyses of the Fermi-LAT and radio observational data rule out the possibility o f the thermal relic annihilating dark matter with mass $m le 100$ GeV for some popular annihilation channels. By using the new observed radio data of the Andromeda galaxy, we rule out the existence of $sim 100-300$ GeV thermal relic annihilating dark matter for ten annihilation channels. The lower limits of annihilating dark matter mass are improved to larger than 330 GeV for the most conservative case, which is a few times larger than the current best constraints. Moreover, these limits strongly disfavor the benchmark model of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) produced through the thermal freeze-out mechanism.

We present low-frequency observations with the GMRT of three giant radio sources (J0139+3957, J0200+4049 and J0807+7400) with relaxed diffuse lobes which show no hotspots and no evidence of jets. The largest of these three, J0200+4049, exhibits a dep ression in the centre of the western lobe, while J0139+3957 and J0807+7400 have been suggested earlier by Klein et al. and Lara et al. respectively to be relic radio sources. We estimate the spectral ages of the lobes. All three sources have compact radio cores. Although the radio cores suggest that the sources are currently active, we suggest that the lobes in these sources could be due to an earlier cycle of activity.

We present an analysis of the photometry and spectroscopy of the host galaxy of Swift-detected GRB 080517. From our optical spectroscopy, we identify a redshift of z = 0.089 +/- 0.003, based on strong emission lines, making this a rare example of a v ery local, low luminosity, long gamma ray burst. The galaxy is detected in the radio with a flux density of S(4.8GHz) =0.22 +/- 0.04mJy - one of relatively few known GRB hosts with a securely measured radio flux. Both optical emission lines and a strong detection at 22 um suggest that the host galaxy is forming stars rapidly, with an inferred star formation rate ~16 Msun/yr and a high dust obscuration (E(B-V )>1, based on sight-lines to the nebular emission regions). The presence of a companion galaxy within a projected distance of 25 kpc, and almost identical in redshift, suggests that star formation may have been triggered by galaxy-galaxy interaction. However, fitting of the remarkably flat spectral energy distribution from the ultraviolet through to the infrared suggests that an older, 500Myr post-starburst stellar population is present along with the ongoing star formation. We suggest that that the host galaxy of GRB 080517 is a valuable addition to the still very small sample of well-studied local gamma-ray burst hosts.
