Data on the polarization observables T, P, and H for the reaction $gamma pto ppi^0$ are reported. Compared to earlier data from other experiments, our data are more precise and extend the covered range in energy and angle substantially. The results were extracted from azimuthal asymmetries measured using a transversely polarized target and linearly polarized photons. The data were taken at the Bonn electron stretcher accelerator ELSA with the CBELSA/TAPS detector. Within the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis, the new polarization data lead to a significant narrowing of the error band for the multipoles for neutral-pion photoproduction.

We use power-counting arguments as an organizing principle to apply chiral perturbation theory, including an explicit $Delta$, to the $p p rightarrow p p pi^0$ reaction near threshold. There are two lowest-order leading mechanisms expected to contrib ute to the amplitude with similar magnitudes: an impulse term, and a $Delta$-excitation mechanism. We examine formally sub-leading but potentially large mechanisms, including pion-rescattering and short-ranged contributions. We show that the pion-rescattering contribution is enhanced by off-shell effects and has a sign opposite to that of a recent estimate based on a PCAC pion interpolating field. Our result is that the impulse term interferes destructively with the pion rescattering and $Delta$-excitation terms. In addition, we have modeled the short-ranged interaction using $sigma$ and $omega$ exchange mechanisms. A recoil correction to the impulse approximation is small. The total amplitude obtained including all of these processes is found to yield cross sections substantially smaller than the measured ones.
Polarization properties of strange baryons produced in pp reactions, p + p -> p + Lambda^0 + K^+ and p + p -> p + Sigma^0 + K^$, near thresholds of the final states (p Lambda^0 K^+) and (p Sigma^0 K^+) are analysed relative to polarizations of collid ing protons. The cross sections for pp reactions are calculated within the effective Lagrangian approach accounting for strong pp rescattering in the initial state of colliding protons with a dominant contribution of the one-pion exchange and strong final-state interaction of daughter hadrons (Eur. Phys. J. A 9, 425 (2000)).
High-statistics differential cross sections for the reactions gamma p -> p eta and gamma p -> p eta-prime have been measured using the CLAS at Jefferson Lab for center-of-mass energies from near threshold up to 2.84 GeV. The eta-prime results are the most precise to date and provide the largest energy and angular coverage. The eta measurements extend the energy range of the worlds large-angle results by approximately 300 MeV. These new data, in particular the eta-prime measurements, are likely to help constrain the analyses being performed to search for new baryon resonance states.

A complete set of polarization transfer observables has been measured for the $^{12}{rm C}(p,n)$ reaction at $T_p=296 {rm MeV}$ and $theta_{rm lab}=0^{circ}$. The total spin transfer $Sigma(0^{circ})$ and the observable $f_1$ deduced from the measure d polarization transfer observables indicate that the spin--dipole resonance at $E_x simeq 7 {rm MeV}$ has greater $2^-$ strength than $1^-$ strength, which is consistent with recent experimental and theoretical studies. The results also indicate a predominance of the spin-flip and unnatural-parity transition strength in the continuum. The exchange tensor interaction at a large momentum transfer of $Q simeq 3.6 {rm fm}^{-1}$ is discussed.
The polarization observables $T, E, P, H$, and $G$ in photoproduction of $eta$ mesons off protons are measured for photon energies from threshold to $W=2400,$MeV ($T$), 2280 MeV ($E$), 1620 MeV ($P, H$), or 1820 MeV ($G$), covering nearly the full so lid angle. The data are compared to predictions from the SAID, MAID, JuBo, and BnGa partial-wave analyses. A refit within the BnGa approach including further data yields precise branching ratios for the $Neta$ decay of nucleon resonances. A $Neta$-branching ratio of $0.33pm 0.04$ for $N(1650)1/2^-$ is found, which reduces the large and controversially discussed $Neta$-branching ratio difference of the two lowest mass $J^P=1/2^-$-resonances significantly.
