We present sharp magnetization jumps and field induced irreversibility in magnetization in multiferroic Y2CoMnO6. Appearance of magnetic relaxation and field sweep rate dependence of magnetization jumps resemble the martensite like scenario and suggests the coexistence of E*-type antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic phases at low temperatures. In Y2CoMnO6, the critical field required for the sharp jump can be increased or decreased depening on the magnitude and direction of the cooling field; this is remarkably different from manganites or other metamagnetic materials where the critical field increases irrespective of the direction of the field cooling. The cooling field dependence on the sharp magnetization jumps has been described by considering exchange pinning mechanism at the interface, like in exchange bias model.

We have investigated multiple caloric effects in multiferroic Y2CoMnO6. Polycrystalline sample prepared by solid state method has shown a ferromagnetic Curie temperature 75 K with second order phase transition; a maximum magneto entropy change -$Delt a$S_{Mmax}) of ~ 7.3 J/kg K with reasonable relative cooling power 220 J/kg is found without thermal and magnetic hysteresis loss. Electric field driven entropy change (-$Delta$S_{Emax}) of ~ 0.26 J/m^3 K obtained using the Maxwells relation and estimated magnetically induced total temperature change of 5.45 K around Curie temperature that confirms the multicaloric effect in the sample.
The Haldane spin-chain (S=1) insulating compound, Sm2BaNiO5, which has been proposed to order antiferromagnetically around (T_N=) 55 K, was investigated for its complex dielectric permittivity, magnetodielectric and pyrocurrent behavior as a function of temperature (T). In order to enable meaningful discussions, the results of ac and dc magnetizatioin and heat-capacity studies are also reported. We emphasize on the following findings: (i) There is a pyrocurrent peak near T_N, but it is shown not to arise from ferroelectricity, but possibly due to thermally stimulated depolarization current, unlike in many other members of this rare-earth series, in which case ferroelectric features were reported at or above T_N; (ii) however, the pyrocurrent measured in the presence of a bias electric field (after cooling in zero electric field) as well as dielectric constant reveal a weak peak with increasing T around 22 K - the temperature around which population of the exchange-split excited state of Kramers doublet has been known to occur. This finding suggests that this compound presents a novel situation in which multiferroicity is induced by an interplay between crystal-field effects and exchange interaction. No multiglass features could be observed down to 2 K unlike in many members of this family.
The behavior of the low-frequency electromagnon in multiferroic DyMnO3 has been investigated in external magnetic fields and in a magnetically ordered state. Significant softening of the electromagnon frequency is observed for external magnetic field s parallel to the a-axis (BIIa), revealing a number of similarities to a classical soft mode behavior known for ferroelectric phase transitions. The softening of the electromagnon yields an increase of the static dielectric permittivity which follows a similar dependence as predicted by the Lyddane-Sachs-Teller relation. Within the geometry BIIb the increase of the electromagnon intensity does not correspond to the softening of the eigenfrequency. In this case the increase of the static dielectric permittivity seem to be governed by the motion of the domain walls.
LiCu2O2 is the first multiferroic cuprate to be reported and its ferroelectricity is induced by complex magnetic ordering in ground state, which is still in controversy today. Herein, we have grown nearly untwinned LiCu2O2 single crystals of high qua lity and systematically investigated their dielectric and ferroelectric behaviours in external magnetic fields. The highly anisotropic response observed in different magnetic fields apparently contradicts the prevalent bc- or ab- plane cycloidal spin model. Our observations give strong evidence supporting a new helimagnetic picture in which the normal of the spin helix plane is along the diagonal of CuO4 squares which form the quasi-1D spin chains by edge-sharing. Further analysis suggests that the spin helix in the ground state is elliptical and in the intermediate state the present c-axis collinear SDW model is applicable with some appropriate modifications. In addition, our studies show that the dielectric and ferroelectric measurements could be used as probes for the characterization of the complex spin structures in multiferroic materials due to the close tie between their magnetic and electric orderings.
We reported a systematic change in the average magnetic relaxation rate, after the application and removal of a 5 T magnetic field, in a polycrystalline sample of La0.5Ca0.5MnO3. Magnetic relaxation measurements and magnetization versus field curves were taken from 10 K to 160 K. The long time behavior of the relaxation curves was approximately logarithmic in all cases.
