We present elastic and inelastic neutron scattering data on LaSrFeO$_4$. We confirm the known magnetic structure with the magnetic moments lying in the tetragonal basal plane, but contrarily to previous reports our macroscopic and neutron diffraction data do not reveal any additional magnetic phase transition connected to a spin reorientation or to a redistribution of two irreducible presentations. Our inelastic neutron scattering data reveals the magnon dispersion along the main-symmetry directions [0 $xi$ 0] and [$xi$ -$xi$ 0]. The dispersion can be explained within linear spin-wave theory yielding an antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbour interaction parameter $J_{1}=7.4(1)$ meV and a next-nearest neighbour interaction parameter $J_{2}=0.4(1)$ meV. The dispersion is gapped with the out-of-plane anisotropy gap found at $Delta_{out}=5.26(2)$ meV, while evidence is present that the in-plane anisotropy gap lies at lower energies, where it cannot be determined due to limited instrument resolution.

We use quantum Monte Carlo methods and single-mode approximation to study the magnon dispersion in the 2D half-filled Hubbard and phonon-coupled Heisenberg models. We find that in the Hubbard model with $U/t< 8$, high-energy magnon dispersion is simi lar to those observed in inelastic neutron scattering experiments in ${La}_2{CuO}_4$. On the other hand, our studies of a 2D Heisenberg model coupled to dynamic optical bond phonons, fails to reproduce the experimental dispersion. These results can be interpreted as evidence for intermediate $U/t$ and charge fluctuations in the cuprate materials.
We derive higher-order corrections in the magnon dispersion relations for two- and three-dimensional antiferromagnets exposed to magnetic and staggered fields that are mutually aligned. Dressing the magnons is the prerequisite to separate the low-tem perature representation of the pressure into a piece due to noninteracting magnons and a piece that corresponds to the magnon-magnon interaction. Both in two and three spatial dimensions, the interaction in the pressure turns out to be attractive. While concrete figures refer to the spin-$frac{1}{2}$ square-lattice and the spin-$frac{1}{2}$ simple cubic lattice antiferromagnet, our results are valid for arbitrary bipartite geometry.
We present an extensive powder and single-crystal neutron scattering investigation of the crystallographic structure and magnetic order of the frustrated metallic $f$-electron magnet UNi$_4$B. We carry out a full refinement of the crystallographic st ructure and conclude that the low-temperature lattice symmetry is orthorhombic (space group Pmm2; cell parameters: $a = 6.963(4)~r{A}$ , $b = 14.793(9)~r{A}$ , $c = 17.126(8)~r{A}$). We determine the magnetically ordered structure, concluding that below $T_mathrm{N} = 19.5~mathrm{K}$ the material undergoes a transition into a partially ordered antiferromagnetic state. The magnetic structure is consistent with the existence of toroidal order in this material. We further test the proposal of a second magnetic transition occurring at $330~mathrm{mK}$, concluding that the thermodynamic anomalies observed at these temperatures do not reflect modifications of the magnetic structure. Our study provides a consistent picture of the interrelationship of structural and magnetic properties in the frustrated magnet UNi$_4$B previously unresolved.
CaV$_2$O$_4$ is a spin-1 antiferromagnet, where the magnetic vanadium ions are arranged on quasi-one-dimensional (1D) zig-zag chains with potentially frustrated antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. High temperature susceptibility and single-cryst al neutron diffraction measurements are used to deduce the non-collinear magnetic structure, dominant exchange interactions and orbital configurations. The results suggest that at high temperatures CaV$_2$O$_4$ behaves as a Haldane chain, but at low temperatures, orbital ordering lifts the frustration and it becomes a spin-1 ladder.
We address the theory of magnon-phonon interactions and compute the corresponding quasi-particle and transport lifetimes in magnetic insulators with focus on yttrium iron garnet at intermediate temperatures from anisotropy- and exchange-mediated magn on-phonon interactions, the latter being derived from the volume dependence of the Curie temperature. We find in general weak effects of phonon scattering on magnon transport and the Gilbert damping of the macrospin Kittel mode. The magnon transport lifetime differs from the quasi-particle lifetime at shorter wavelengths.
