Lattice QCD can provide a direct determination of meson electromagnetic form factors, making predictions for upcoming experiments at Jefferson Lab. The form factors are a reflection of the bound-state nature of the meson and so these calculations giv e information about how confinement by QCD affects meson internal structure. The region of high squared (space-like) momentum-transfer, $Q^2$, is of particular interest because perturbative QCD predictions take a simple form in that limit that depends on the meson decay constant. We previously showed incite{jonnaff} that, up to $Q^2$ of 6 $mathrm{GeV}^2$, the form factor for a `pseudo-pion made of strange quarks was significantly larger than the asymptotic perturbative QCD result and showed no sign of heading towards that value at higher $Q^2$. Here we give predictions for real mesons, the $K^+$ and $K^0$, in anticipation of JLAB results for the $K^+$ in the next few years. We also give results for a heavier meson, the $eta_c$, up to $Q^2$ of 25 $mathrm{GeV}^2$ for a comparison to perturbative QCD in a higher $Q^2$ regime.
We present a calculation of the electromagnetic form factors of the $rho^+$ meson. Our formalism is based on the point-form of relativistic quantum mechanics. Electron-$rho$-meson scattering is formulated as a coupled-channel problem for a Bakamjian- Thomas mass operator, such that the dynamics of the exchanged photon is taken explicitly into account. The $rho$-meson current is extracted from on-shell matrix elements of the optical potential of the scattering process. As a consequence of the violation of cluster separability in the Bakamjian-Thomas framework, our current includes additional, unphysical contributions, which can be separated from the physical ones uniquely. Our results for the form factors are in good agreement with other approaches.
The nucleon electromagnetic form factors are calculated in light cone QCD sum rules framework using the most general form of the nucleon interpolating current. Using two forms of the distribution amplitudes (DAs), predictions for the form factors are presented and compared with existing experimental data. It is shown that our results describe remarkably well the existing experimental data.
The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on Meson Transition Form Factors held in Cracow from May 29th to 30th, 2012 introduce the meson transition form factor project with special emphasis on the interrelations between the various form factors (on-shell , single off-shell, double off-shell). Short summaries of the talks presented at the workshop follow.
One of the open issues in evaluations of the contribution from hadronic light-by-light scattering to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $(g-2)_mu$ concerns the role of heavier scalar, axial-vector, and tensor-meson intermediate states. The cou pling of axial vectors to virtual photons is suppressed for small virtualities by the Landau-Yang theorem, but otherwise there are few rigorous constraints on the corresponding form factors. In this paper, we first derive the Lorentz decomposition of the two-photon matrix elements into scalar functions following the general recipe by Bardeen, Tung, and Tarrach. Based on this decomposition, we then calculate the asymptotic behavior of the meson transition form factors from a light-cone expansion in analogy to the asymptotic limits for the pseudoscalar transition form factor derived by Brodsky and Lepage. Finally, we compare our results to existing data as well as previous models employed in the literature.
