We argue that the natural way to generalise a tensor network variational class to a continuous quantum system is to use the Feynman path integral to implement a continuous tensor contraction. This approach is illustrated for the case of a recently introduced class of quantum field states known as continuous matrix-product states (cMPS). As an example of the utility of the path-integral representation we argue that the state of a dynamically evolving quantum field admits a natural representation as a cMPS. An argument that all states in Fock space admit a cMPS representation when the number of variational parameters tends to infinity is also provided.

We investigate the continuum limit that the number of beads goes to infinity in the ring polymer representation of thermal averages. Studying the continuum limit of the trajectory sampling equation sheds light on possible preconditioning techniques f or sampling ring polymer configurations with large number of beads. We propose two preconditioned Langevin sampling dynamics, which are shown to have improved stability and sampling accuracy. We present a careful mode analysis of the preconditioned dynamics and show their connections to the normal mode, the staging coordinate and the Matsubara mode representation for ring polymers. In the case where the potential is quadratic, we show that the continuum limit of the preconditioned mass modified Langevin dynamics converges to its equilibrium exponentially fast, which suggests that the finite-dimensional counterpart has a dimension-independent convergence rate. In addition, the preconditioning techniques can be naturally applied to the multi-level quantum systems in the nonadiabatic regime, which are compatible with various numerical approaches.

We present a tensor network representation of the path integral for the one-component real scalar field theory in 1+1 dimensional Minkowski space-time. It is numerically verified by comparing with the exact result in the non-interacting case.
In this work we study the Nekrasov--Shatashvili limit of the Nekrasov instanton partition function of Yang--Mills field theories with ${cal N}=2$ supersymmetry and gauge group SU(N). The theories are coupled with fundamental matter. A path integral e xpression of the full instanton partition function is derived. It is checked that in the Nekrasov--Shatashvili (thermodynamic) limit the action of the field theory obtained in this way reproduces exactly the equation of motion used in the saddle-point calculations.

Majorana fermions are currently of huge interest in the context of nanoscience and condensed matter physics. Different to usual fermions, Majorana fermions have the property that the particle is its own anti-particle thus, they must be described by r eal fields. Mathematically, this property makes nontrivial the quantization of the problem due, for instance, to the absence of a Wick-like theorem. In view of the present interest on the subject, it is important to develop different theoretical approaches in order to study problems where Majorana fermions are involved. In this note we show that Majorana fermions can be studied in the context of field theories for constrained systems. Using the Faddeev-Jackiw formalism for quantum field theories with constraints, we derived the path integral representation for Majorana fermions. In order to show the validity of the path integral we apply it to an exactly solvable problem. This application also shows that it is rather simple to perform systematic calculations on the basis of the present framework.
The derivation of the Feynman path integral based on the Trotter product formula is extended to the case where the system is in a magnetic field.
