We demonstrate the coherent transduction of quantum noise reduction, or squeezed light, by Ag localized surface plasmons (LSPs). Squeezed light, generated through four-wave-mixing in Rb vapor, is coupled to a Ag nanohole array designed to exhibit LSP-mediated extraordinary-optical transmission (EOT) spectrally coincident with the squeezed light source at 795 nm. We demonstrate that quantum noise reduction as a function of transmission is found to match closely with linear attenuation models, thus demonstrating that the photon-LSP-photon transduction process is coherent near the LSP resonance.

Light with light control of surface plasmon polaritons is theoretically demonstrated. A barely simple and compact source of these waves consists in a finite number of slits (evenly spaced) perforating a metal film. The system scatters electromagnetic fields in one side of the metal film when it is illuminated from the opposite side by a polarized light source. High intensity light sources moreover efficiently generate light at second harmonic and higher frequencies in the metal led by optical nonlinearities. It is shown how the mixing of fields scattered by the slits from a weak beam at $lambda$ wavelength, with the second harmonic fields generated by a high intensity $2 lambda$ beam, creates a destructive interference of surface plasmons in one of the two possible directions of emission from the slits, while these are enhanced along the opposite direction. The unidirectional launching of surface plasmons is due to the different properties of symmetry at $lambda$ whether they are linearly or nonlinearly generated. It is envisaged a nanodevice which might allow sending digital information codified in the surface plasmon field or be used to build ultra-narrow bandwidth surface plasmon frequency combs.
Here we present an all-optical plasmon coupling scheme, utilising the intrinsic nonlinear optical response of graphene. We demonstrate coupling of free-space, visible light pulses to the surface plasmons in a planar, un-patterned graphene sheet by us ing nonlinear wave mixing to match both the wavevector and energy of the surface wave. By carefully controlling the phase-matching conditions, we show that one can excite surface plasmons with a defined wavevector and direction across a large frequency range, with an estimated photon efficiency in our experiments approaching $10^{-5}$.
We demonstrate optomechanical interference in a multimode system, in which an optical mode couples to two mechanical modes. A phase-dependent excitation-coupling approach is developed, which enables the observation of constructive and destructive opt omechanical interferences. The destructive interference prevents the coupling of the mechanical system to the optical mode, suppressing optically-induced mechanical damping. These studies establish optomechanical interference as an essential tool for controlling the interactions between light and mechanical oscillators.
We investigate in a fully quantum-mechanical manner how the many-body excitation spectrum of topological insulators is affected by the presence of long-range Coulomb interactions. In the one-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and its mirror-symme tric variant strongly localized plasmonic excitations are observed which originate from topologically non-trivial single-particle states. These textit{topological plasmons} inherit some of the characteristics of their constituent topological single-particle states, but they are not equally well protected against disorder due to the admixture of non-topological bulk single-particle states in the polarization function. The strength of the effective Coulomb interactions is also shown to have strong effects on the plasmonic modes. Furthermore, we show how external modifications via dielectric screening and applied electric fields with distinct symmetries can be used to study topological plasmons, thus allowing for experimental verification of our atomistic predictions.

The radiative decay of quantum dot (QD) excitons into surface plasmons in a cylindrical nanowire is investigated theoretically. Maxwells equations with appropriate boundary conditions are solved numerically to obtain the dispersion relations of surfa ce plasmons. The radiative decay rate of QD excitons is found to be greatly enhanced at certain values of the exciton bandgap. Analogous to the decay of a two-level atom in the photonic crystal, we first point out that such an enhanced phenomenon allows one to examine the non-Markovian dynamics of the QD exciton. Besides, due to the one dimensional propagating feature of nanowire surface plasmons, remote entangled states can be generated via super-radiance and may be useful in future quantum information processing.
