We investigate the scaling properties of the recently acquired fermionic non--linear $sigma$--model which controls gapless diffusive modes in a two--dimensional disordered system of Dirac electrons beyond charge neutrality. The transport on large scales is governed by a novel renormalizable nonlocal field theory. For zero mean random gap, it is characterized by the absence of a dynamic gap generation and a scale invariant diffusion coefficient. The $beta$ function of the DC conductivity, computed for this model, is in perfect agreement with numerical results obtained previously.

We focus on the confinement of two-dimensional Dirac fermions within the waveguides created by realistic magnetic fields. Understanding of their band structure is of our main concern. We provide easily applicable criteria, mostly depending only on th e asymptotic behavior of the magnetic field, that can guarantee existence or absence of the energy bands and provide valuable insight into the systems where analytical solution is impossible. The general results are employed in specific systems where the waveguide is created by the magnetic field of a set of electric wires or magnetized strips.
We use the Wick-rotated time-dependent supersymmetry to construct models of two-dimensional Dirac fermions in presence of an electrostatic grating. We show that there appears omnidirectional perfect transmission through the grating at specific energy . Additionally to being transparent for incoming fermions, the grating hosts strongly localized states.
Uncertainty relations are studied for a characterization of topological-band insulator transitions in 2D gapped Dirac materials isostructural with graphene. We show that the relative or Kullback-Leibler entropy in position and momentum spaces, and th e standard variance-based uncertainty relation, give sharp signatures of topological phase transitions in these systems.
Quantum coherent transport of Dirac fermions in a mesoscopic nanowire of the 3D topological insulator Bi2Se3 is studied in the weak-disorder limit. At very low temperatures, many harmonics are evidenced in the Fourier transform of Aharonov-Bohm oscil lations, revealing the long phase-coherence length of surface states. Remarkably, from their exponential temperature dependence, we infer an unusual 1/T power law for the phase coherence length. This decoherence is typical for quasi-ballistic fermions weakly coupled to the dynamics of their environment.
We study the properties of an ultracold Fermi gas loaded in an optical square lattice and subjected to an external and classical non-Abelian gauge field. We show that this system can be exploited as an optical analogue of relativistic quantum electro dynamics, offering a remarkable route to access the exotic properties of massless Dirac fermions with cold atoms experiments. In particular we show that the underlying Minkowski space-time can also be modified, reaching anisotropic regimes where a remarkable anomalous quantum Hall effect and a squeezed Landau vacuum could be observed.
