In honour of Mario Greco I present my recollections on the QCD studies in Rome in the 70s and early 80s and on our very friendly group of people involved.

We suggest the possibility of creation in the early Universe of stable domains of radius a few kilometers wide, formed by coherently excited states of $pi$-mesons. Such domains appear dark to an external observer, since the decay rate of the said coh erent pionic states into photons is vanishingly small. The related thermal insulation of the domains from the outer world could have allowed them to survive till present days. The estimated maximum radius and the period of rotation of such objects turn out to be compatible with those of certain pulsars.

Nuclear interactions of antiprotons in atomic states are discussed. The total as well as partial widths for single nucleon capture events are calculated. These are compared to the X-ray and recent single nucleon capture data. The rates of the neutron or proton captures test nuclear density distributions at the extreme nuclear surface. Recently found cases of neutron and proton haloes are analysed.
We present the high resolution spectroscopic study of five -3.9<=[Fe/H]<=-2.5 stars in the Local Group dwarf spheroidal, Sculptor, thereby doubling the number of stars with comparable observations in this metallicity range. We carry out a detailed an alysis of the chemical abundances of alpha, iron peak, light and heavy elements, and draw comparisons with the Milky Way halo and the ultra faint dwarf stellar populations. We show that the bulk of the Sculptor metal-poor stars follows the same trends in abundance ratios versus metallicity as the Milky Way stars. This suggests similar early conditions of star formation and a high degree of homogeneity of the interstellar medium. We find an outlier to this main regime, which seems to miss the products of the most massive of the TypeII supernovae. In addition to its value to help refining galaxy formation models, this star provides clues to the production of cobalt and zinc. Two of our sample stars have low odd-to-even barium isotope abundance ratios, suggestive of a fair proportion of s-process; we discuss the implication for the nucleosynthetic origin of the neutron capture elements.

I present an overview of new observations of atomic and molecular gas in early-type galaxies, focusing on the Atlas3D project. Our data on stellar kinematics, age and metallicity, and ionized gas kinematics allow us to place the cold gas into the bro ader context of early-type galaxy assembly and star formation history. The cold gas data also provide valuable constraints for numerical simulations of early-type galaxies.

Bound state perturbation theory is well established for QED atoms. Today the hyperfine splitting of Positronium is known to $O(alpha^7logalpha)$. Whereas standard expansions of scattering amplitudes start from free states, bound states are expanded a round eigenstates of the Hamiltonian including a binding potential. The eigenstate wave functions have all powers of $alpha$, requiring a choice in the ordering of the perturbative expansion. Temporal $(A^0=0)$ gauge permits an expansion starting from valence Fock states, bound by their instantaneous gauge field. This formulation is applicable in any frame and seems promising even for hadrons in QCD. The $O(alpha_s^0)$ confining potential is determined (up to a universal scale) by a homogeneous solution of Gauss law.
