This is a period study of the bright interacting southern eclipsing binary star R Arae. New photometric data are combined with archival data to determine R Aras average mass transfer rate over the past 116 years through the analysis of the resulting ephemeris curve. An updated ephemeris is given.
The eclipsing and strongly interacting binary star system R Arae (HD149730) is in a very active and very short-lived stage of its evolution. R Ara consists of a B9V primary and an unknown secondary. We have collected the International Ultraviolet Exp
H{alpha} emission V/R variations caused by a discontinous mass transfer in interacting binaries with a rapidly rotating accreting star are modelled qualititatively for the first time. The program ZEUS-MP was used for a non-linear 3-D hydrodynamical m
V341 Arae is a 10th-magnitude variable star in the southern hemisphere, discovered over a century ago by Henrietta Leavitt but relatively little studied since then. Although historically considered to be a Cepheid, it is actually blue and coincides w
We present the orbital solution of a peculiar double-lined spectroscopic and eclipsing binary system, 2M17091769+3127589. This solution was obtained by a simultaneous fit of both APOGEE radial velocities and TESS and ASAS-SN light curves to determine
Intermediate resolution (0.5-1 Angs) optical spectroscopy of the cataclysmic variable SY Cnc reveals the spectrum of the donor star. Our data enable us to resolve the orbital motion of the donor and provide a new orbital solution, binary mass ratio a
