The correlation lengths of nonperturbative-nonconfining and confining stochastic background Yang-Mills fields are obtained by means of a direct analytic path-integral evaluation of the Green functions of the so-called one- and two-gluon gluelumps. Numerically, these lengths turn out to be in a good agreement with those known from the earlier, Hamiltonian, treatment of such Green functions. It is also demonstrated that the correlation function of nonperturbative-nonconfining fields decreases with the deviation of the path in this correlation function from the straight-line one.

A microscopic description of vacuum structure and color singlet quantum states in Yang-Mills theory is presented. Our approach is based on an idea that classical stationary solutions defining a Hilbert space of one particle quantum states possess qua ntum stability and symmetry under Weyl color group transformations. We demonstrate that Weyl symmetry and stability condition provide color singlet states and reveals the origin of color confinement in $SU(3)$ quantum Yang-Mills theory.
We study, for $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills theories discretized on a lattice, a non-local topological order parameter, the center flux ${{z}}$. We show that: i) well defined topological sectors classified by $pi_1(SO(3))=mathbb{Z}_2$ can only exist in the orde red phase of ${{z}}$; ii) depending on the dimension $2 leq dleq 4$ and action chosen, the center flux exhibits a critical behaviour sharing striking features with the Kosterlitz-Thouless type of transitions, although belonging to a novel universality class; iii) such critical behaviour does not depend on the temperature $T$. Yang-Mills theories can thus exist in two different continuum phases, characterized by an either topologically ordered or disordered vacuum; this reminds of a quantum phase transition, albeit controlled by the choice of symmetries and not by a physical parameter.

We consider the pure supersymmetric Yang--Mills theories placed on a small 3-dimensional spatial torus with higher orthogonal and exceptional gauge groups. The problem of constructing the quantum vacuum states is reduced to a pure mathematical proble m of classifying the flat connections on 3-torus. The latter problem is equivalent to the problem of classification of commuting triples of elements in a connected simply connected compact Lie group which is solved in this paper. In particular, we show that for higher orthogonal SO(N), N > 6, and for all exceptional groups the moduli space of flat connections involves several distinct connected components. The total number of vacuumstates is given in all cases by the dual Coxeter number of the group which agrees with the result obtained earlier with the instanton technique.

We present a strong coupling expansion that permits to develop analysis of quantum field theory in the infrared limit. Application to a quartic massless scalar field gives a massive spectrum and the propagator in this regime. We extend the approach t o a pure Yang-Mills theory obtaining analogous results. The gluon propagator is compared satisfactorily with lattice results and similarly for the spectrum. Comparison with experimental low energy spectrum of QCD supports the view that $sigma$ resonance is indeed a glueball. The gluon propagator we obtained is finally used to formulate a low energy Lagrangian for QCD that reduces to a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with all the parameters fixed by those of the full theory.

An effective field theory model of the massive Yang-Mills theory is considered. Assuming that the renormalized coupling constants of non-renormalizable interactions are suppressed by a large scale parameter it is shown that in analogy to the non-abel ian gauge invariant theory the dimensionless coupling constant vanishes logarithmically for large values of the renormalization scale parameter.
