We study the Han-Kobayashi (HK) achievable sum rate for the two-user symmetric Gaussian interference channel. We find the optimal power split ratio between the common and private messages (assuming no time-sharing), and derive a closed form expression for the corresponding sum rate. This provides a finer understanding of the achievable HK sum rate, and allows for precise comparisons between this sum rate and that of orthogonal signaling. One surprising finding is that despite the fact that the channel is symmetric, allowing for asymmetric power split ratio at both users (i.e., asymmetric rates) can improve the sum rate significantly. Considering the high SNR regime, we specify the interference channel value above which the sum rate achieved using asymmetric power splitting outperforms the symmetric case.

We characterize the generalized degrees of freedom of the $K$ user symmetric Gaussian interference channel where all desired links have the same signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and all undesired links carrying interference have the same interference-to-n oise ratio, ${INR}={SNR}^alpha$. We find that the number of generalized degrees of freedom per user, $d(alpha)$, does not depend on the number of users, so that the characterization is identical to the 2 user interference channel with the exception of a singularity at $alpha=1$ where $d(1)=frac{1}{K}$. The achievable schemes use multilevel coding with a nested lattice structure that opens the possibility that the sum of interfering signals can be decoded at a receiver even though the messages carried by the interfering signals are not decodable.
This paper studies a symmetric K user Gaussian interference channel with K transmitters and K receivers. A very strong interference regime is derived for this channel setup. A very strong interference regime is one where the capacity region of the in terference channel is the same as the capacity region of the channel with no interference. In this regime, the interference can be perfectly canceled by all the receivers without incurring any rate penalties. A very strong interference condition for an example symmetric K user deterministic interference channel is also presented.
Millimeter wave (mmWave) systems will likely employ large antenna arrays at both the transmitters and receivers. A natural application of antenna arrays is simultaneous transmission to multiple users, which requires multi-user precoding at the transm itter. Hardware constraints, however, make it difficult to apply conventional lower frequency MIMO precoding techniques at mmWave. This paper proposes and analyzes a low complexity hybrid analog/digital beamforming algorithm for downlink multi-user mmWave systems. Hybrid precoding involves a combination of analog and digital processing that is motivated by the requirement to reduce the power consumption of the complete radio frequency and mixed signal hardware. The proposed algorithm configures hybrid precoders at the transmitter and analog combiners at multiple receivers with a small training and feedback overhead. For this algorithm, we derive a lower bound on the achievable rate for the case of single-path channels, show its asymptotic optimality at large numbers of antennas, and make useful insights for more general cases. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm offers higher sum rates compared with analog-only beamforming, and approaches the performance of the unconstrained digital precoding solutions.
We study the properties of quantum stabilizer codes that embed a finite-dimensional protected code space in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. The stabilizer group of such a code is associated with a symplectically integral lattice in the phase s pace of 2N canonical variables. From the existence of symplectically integral lattices with suitable properties, we infer a lower bound on the quantum capacity of the Gaussian quantum channel that matches the one-shot coherent information optimized over Gaussian input states.
We consider a secure communication scenario through the two-user Gaussian interference channel: each transmitter (user) has a confidential message to send reliably to its intended receiver while keeping it secret from the other receiver. Prior work i nvestigated the performance of two different approaches for this scenario; i.i.d. Gaussian random codes and real alignment of structured codes. While the latter achieves the optimal sum secure degrees of freedom (s.d.o.f.), its extension to finite SNR regimes is challenging. In this paper, we propose a new achievability scheme for the weak and the moderately weak interference regimes, in which the reliability as well as the confidentiality of the transmitted messages are maintained at any finite SNR value. Our scheme uses lattice structure, structured jamming codewords, and lattice alignment in the encoding and the asymmetric compute-and-forward strategy in the decoding. We show that our lower bound on the sum secure rates scales linearly with log(SNR) and hence, it outperforms i.i.d. Gaussian random codes. Furthermore, we show that our achievable result is asymptotically optimal. Finally, we provide a discussion on an extension of our scheme to K>2 users.
