We report a measurement of high-p_T inclusive pi^0, eta, and direct photon production in p+p and d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV at midrapidity (0 < eta < 1). Photons from the decay pi^0 -> gamma gamma were detected in the Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter of the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The eta -> gamma gamma decay was also observed and constituted the first eta measurement by STAR. The first direct photon cross section measurement by STAR is also presented, the signal was extracted statistically by subtracting the pi^0, eta, and omega(782) decay background from the inclusive photon distribution observed in the calorimeter. The analysis is described in detail, and the results are found to be in good agreement with earlier measurements and with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

The PHENIX experiment has measured direct photons at $sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV in $p+p$, $d$+Au and Au+Au collisions. For $p_{T}$ $<$ 4 GeV/$c$, the internal conversion into $e^{+}e^{-}$ pairs has been used to measure the direct photons in Au+Au.
The transverse momentum ($p_{mathrm T}$) spectra for identified charged pions, protons and anti-protons from $p$+$p$ and $d$+Au collisions are measured around midrapidity ($mid$y$mid$ $<$ 0.5) over the range of 0.3 $<$ $p_{mathrm T}$ $<$ 10 GeV/$c$ a t $sqrt{s_{mathrm {NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The charged pion and proton+anti-proton spectra at high p_{T} in p+p collisions have been compared with the next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamic (NLO pQCD) calculations with a specific fragmentation scheme. The p/pi^{+} and pbar/pi^{-}has been studied at high p_{T}. The nuclear modification factor (R_{dAu}) shows that the identified particle Cronin effects around midrapidity are significantly non-zero for charged pions and to be even larger for protons at intermediate p_{T} (2 < p_{T} < 5 GeV/c).
Direct photons have been measured in sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV d+Au collisions at midrapidity. A wide p_T range is covered by measurements of nearly-real virtual photons (1<p_T<6 GeV/c) and real photons (5<p_T<16 GeV/c). The invariant yield of the direct ph otons in d+Au collisions over the scaled p+p cross section is consistent with unity. Theoretical calculations assuming standard cold nuclear matter effects describe the data well for the entire p_T range. This indicates that the large enhancement of direct photons observed in Au+Au collisions for 1.0<p_T<2.5 GeV/c is due to a source other than the initial-state nuclear effects.
The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the invariant cross section for omega-meson production at mid-rapidity in the transverse momentum range 2.5 < p_T < 9.25 GeV/c in p+p and d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. Measurements in two decay ch annels (omega --> pi^0 pi^+ pi^- and omega --> pi^0 gamma) yield consistent results, and the reconstructed omega mass agrees with the accepted value within the p_T range of the measurements. The omega/pi^0 ratio is found to be 0.85 +/- 0.05(stat) +/- 0.09(sys) and 0.94 +/- 0.08(stat) +/- 0.12(sys) in p+p and d+Au collisions respectively, independent of p_T . The nuclear modification factor R_dA is 1.03 +/- 0.12(stat) +/- 0.21(sys) and 0.83 +/- 0.21(stat) +/- 0.17(sys) in minimum bias and central (0-20%) d+Au collisions, respectively.
The differential cross section for the production of direct photons in p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV at midrapidity was measured in the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Inclusive-direct photons were measured in the transver se-momentum range from 5.5--25 GeV/c, extending the range beyond previous measurements. Event structure was studied with an isolation criterion. Next-to-leading-order perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics calculations give a good description of the spectrum. When the cross section is expressed versus x_T, the PHENIX data are seen to be in agreement with measurements from other experiments at different center-of-mass energies.
