The invariant amplitudes for pion electroproduction on the nucleon are evaluated by dispersion relations at constant t with MAID as input for the imaginary parts of these amplitudes. In the threshold region these amplitudes are confronted with the predictions of several low-energy theorems derived in the soft-pion limit. In general agreement with Chiral Perturbation Theory, the dispersive approach yields large corrections to these theorems because of the finite pion mass.

We determine the magnetic dipole moment of the rho meson using preliminary data from the BaBar Collaboration for the $e^+ e^- to pi^+ pi^- 2 pi^0$ process, in the center of mass energy range from 0.9 to 2.2 GeV. We describe the $gamma^* to 4pi$ verte x using a vector meson dominance model, including the intermediate resonance contributions relevant at these energies. We find that $mu_rho = 2.1 pm 0.5$ in $e/2 m_rho$ units.
We discuss the extended on-mass-shell scheme for manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. We present a calculation of pion photo- and electroproduction up to and including order $q^4$. The low-energy constants have been fixed b y fitting experimental data in all available reaction channels. Our results can be accessed via a web interface, the so-called chiral MAID (http://www.kph.uni-mainz.de/MAID/chiralmaid/). We explain how our program works and how it can be used for further analysis.

At large virtuality $Q^2$, the coupling to the vector meson production channels provides us with a natural explanation of the surprisingly large cross section of the neutral pion electroproduction recently measured at Jefferson Laboratory, without de stroying the good agreement between the Regge pole model and the data at the real photon point. Elastic rescattering of the $pi^0$ provides us with a way to explain why the node, that appears at $tsim -0.5$ GeV$^2$ at the real photon point, disappears as soon as $Q^2$ differs from zero.
The pion structure in Minkowski space is described in terms of an analytic model of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude combined with Euclidean Lattice QCD results for the running quark mass. In the present work, a pion model previously proposed, which allo ws for a Nakanishi integral representation, is studied in order to verify the sensitivity of the pion electromagnetic form factor to small variations of the quark self-energy. In addition, we extend the previous work, providing the Nakanishi integral representation for the invariants associated with a decomposition of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude.

The relativistic amplitudes of pion photo- and electroproduction are calculated by dispersion relations at constant t. Several sum rules and low-energy theorems for the threshold amplitudes are investigated within this technique. The continuation of the amplitudes to sub-threshold kinematics is shown to provide a unique framework to derive the low-energy constants of chiral perturbation theory by global properties of the excitation spectrum.
