The results of the experiment searching for 2K-capture with large low-background proportional counter are presented. The comparison of spectra of the background of the proportional counter filled with Kr enriched in $^{78}$Kr (8400 hr) and with natural Kr (3039 hr) is given. A new limit on the half-life of $^{78}$Kr with regard to 2K-capture, T$_{1/2}geq2.0cdot10^{21}$ yrs (95% C.L.) has been obtained.

In an experiment with the BigRIPS separator at the RIKEN Nishina Center, the fragmentation of a $^{78}$Kr beam allowed the observation of new neutron-deficient isotopes at the proton drip-line. Clean identification spectra could be produced and $^{63 }$Se, $^{67}$Kr, and $^{68}$Kr were identified for the first time. In addition, $^{59}$Ge was also observed. Three of these isotopes, $^{59}$Ge, $^{63}$Se, and $^{67}$Kr, are potential candidates for ground-state two-proton radioactivity. In addition, the isotopes $^{58}$Ge, $^{62}$Se, and $^{66}$Kr were also sought but without success. The present experiment also allowed the determination of production cross sections for some of the most exotic isotopes. These measurements confirm the trend already observed that the empirical parameterization of fragmentation cross sections, EPAX, significantly overestimates experimental cross sections in this mass region.
The lifetime of the recently discovered $2p$ emitter $^{67}$Kr was recently found considerably below the lower limit predicted theoretically. This communication addresses this issue.Different separation energy systematics are analyzed and different m echanisms for $2p$ emission are evaluated. It is found that the most plausible reason for this disagreement is a decay mechanism of $^{67}$Kr, which is not true $2p$ emission, but transition dynamics on the borderline between true $2p$ and sequential $2p$ decay mechanisms. If this is true, this imposes stringent limits $E_r=1.35-1.42$ MeV on the ground state energy of $^{66}$Br relative to the $^{65}$Se-$p$ threshold.

We measured fragmentation cross sections produced using the primary beam of $^{86}$Kr at 64 MeV/nucleon on $^9$Be and $^{181}$Ta targets. The cross sections were obtained by integrating the momentum distributions of isotopes with 25<Z<36 measured usi ng the RIPS fragment separator at RIKEN. The cross-section ratios obtained with the $^{181}$Ta and $^{9}$Be targets depend on the fragment masses, contrary to the simple geometrical models. We compared the extracted cross sections to EPAX; an empirical parameterization of fragmentation cross sections. Predictions from current EPAX parameterization severely overestimate the production cross sections of very neutron-rich isotopes. Attempts to obtain another set of EPAX parameters specific to the reaction studied here, to extrapolate the neutron-rich nuclei more accurately have not been very successful, suggesting that accurate predictions of production cross sections of nuclei far from the valley of stability require information of nuclear properties which are not present in EPAX.
We report an increase of up to 60% on the count rates of the rare $^{81}mathrm{Kr}$ and $^{85}mathrm{Kr}$ isotopes in the Atom Trap Trace Analysis method by enhancing the production of metastable atoms in the discharge source. Additional atoms in the metastable $ 1s_5 $ level (Paschen notation) are obtained via optically pumping the $1s_4-2p_6$ transition at 819 nm. By solving the master equation for the system, we identify this transition to be the most suitable one and can describe the measured increase in metastable population as a function of the 819-nm laser power. We calculate the previously unknown isotope shifts and hyperfine splittings of the $1s_4-2p_6$ transition in $^{81}mathrm{Kr}$ and $^{85}mathrm{Kr}$, and verify the results with count rate measurements. The demonstrated count-rate increase enables a corresponding decrease in the required sample sizes for $^{81}mathrm{Kr}$ and $^{85}mathrm{Kr}$ dating, a significant improvement for applications such as dating of ocean water and deep ice cores.
