It is shown that in all odd dimensional Chern-Simons theories states in which the torsion is non zero (but it can approach smoothly to zero outside suitable regions) do exist. Some possible observational effects related to neutrino oscillations are pointed out. In the theory of continuum media (in which suitable defects can be described by localized non vanishing torsion) the gravitational intuition is a rather useful tool to describe the physical effects of such defects. A possible astrophysical application is shortly described.

The gravitational memory effects of Chern-Simons modified gravity are considered in the asymptotically flat spacetime. If the Chern-Simons scalar does not directly couple with the ordinary matter fields, there are also displacement, spin and center-o f-mass memory effects as in general relativity. This is because the term of the action that violates the parity invariance is linear in the scalar field but quadratic in the curvature tensor. This results in the parity violation occuring at the higher orders in the inverse luminosity radius. The scalar field does not induce any new memory effects that can be detected by interferometers or pulsar timing arrays. The asymptotic symmetry is group is also the extended Bondi-Metzner-Sachs group. The constraints on the memory effects excited by the tensor modes are obtained.
Exact solutions with torsion in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity are derived. These solutions have a cross product structure of two constant curvature manifolds. The equations of motion give a relation for the coupling constants of the theory in order t o have solutions with nontrivial torsion. This relation is not the Chern-Simons combination. One of the solutions has a $AdS_2times S^3$ structure and is so the purely gravitational analogue of the Bertotti-Robinson space-time where the torsion can be seen as the dual of the covariantly constant electromagnetic field.
In the present paper, we construct spontaneously scalarized rotating black hole solutions in dynamical Chern-Simons (dCS) gravity by following the scalar field evolution in the decoupling limit. For the range of parameters where the Kerr black hole b ecomes unstable within dCS gravity the scalar field grows exponentially until it reaches an equilibrium configuration that is independent of the initial perturbation. Interestingly, the $mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry of the scalar field is broken and a strong maximum around only one of the rotational axes can be observed. The black hole scalar charge is calculated for two coupling functions suggesting that the main observations would remain qualitatively correct even if one considers coupling functions/coupling parameters producing large deviations from the Kerr solution beyond the decoupling limit approximation.
Five dimensional Chern-Simons theory with (anti-)de Sitter SO(1,5) or SO(2,4) gauge invariance presents an alternative to General Relativity with cosmological constant. We consider the zero-modes of its Kaluza-Klein compactification to four dimension s. Solutions with vanishing torsion are obtained in the cases of a spherically symmetric 3-space and of a homogeneous and isotropic 3-space, which reproduce the Schwarzshild-de Sitter and $Lambda$CDM cosmological solutions of General Relativity. We also check that vanishing torsion is a stable feature of the solutions.

We evaluate a 5-dimensional Randall Sundrum type metric in the Lagrangian of the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity, and then we derive an action and its corresponding field equations, for a 4-dimensional brane embedded in the 5-dimensional space-time of the theory, which in the limit l--0 leads to the 4-dimensional general relativity with cosmological constant. An interpretation of the h*a matter field present in the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity action is given. As an application, we find some Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker cosmological solutions that exhibit accelerated behavior.
