{Full three dimensional static and dynamic mean field calculations using collocation basis splines with a Skyrme type Hamiltonian are described. This program is developed to address the difficult theoretical challenges offered by exotic nuclei. Ground state and deformation properties are calculated using static Hartree-Fock, Hartree-Fock+BCS and constrained Hartree-Fock models. Collective properties, such as reaction rates and resonances, are described using a new alternate method for evaluating linear response theory, which is constructed directly on top of the static calculation. This provides a consistent description of the ground state, deformation and collective nuclear properties. Sample results are presented for the giant multiple resonances of $^{16}$O. }

In this theoretical study, we establish a correlation between the neutron skin thickness and the nuclear symmetry energy for the even$-$even isotopes of Fe, Ni, Zn, Ge, Se and Kr within the framework of the axially deformed self-consistent relativist ic mean field for the non-linear NL3$^*$ and density-dependent DD-ME1 interactions. The coherent density functional method is used to formulate the symmetry energy, the neutron pressure and the curvature of finite nuclei as a function of the nuclear radius. We have performed broad studies for the mass dependence on the symmetry energy in terms of the neutron-proton asymmetry for mass 70 $leq$ A $leq$ 96. From this analysis, we found a notable signature of a shell closure at $N$ = 50 in the isotopic chains of Fe, Ni, Zn, Ge, Se and Kr nuclei. The present study reveals an interrelationship between the characteristics of infinite nuclear matter and the neutron skin thickness of finite nuclei
The study of exotic nuclei around 132Sn is a subject of current experimental and theoretical interest. Experimental information for nuclei in the vicinity of 132Sn, which have been long inaccessible to spectroscopic studies, is now available thanks t o new advanced facilities and techniques. The experimental data which have been now become available for these neutron-rich nuclei may suggest a modification in the shell structure. They are, in fact, somewhat different from what one might expect by extrapolating the existing results for N<82, and as a possible explanation a change in the single-proton level scheme has been suggested. The latter would be caused by a more diffuse nuclear surface, and could be seen as a precursor of major effects which should show up at larger neutron excess. New data offer therefore the opportunity to test the shell model and look for a possible evolution of shell structure when going toward neutron drip line. This is stimulating shell-model studies in this region. Here, we present an overview of recent shell-model studies of 132Sn neighbors, focusing attention on those calculations employing realistic effective interactions.
We present a review of recent works on clustering phenomena in unstable nuclei studied by antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). The AMD studies in these decades have uncovered novel types of clustering phenomena brought about by the excess neutro ns. Among them, this review focuses on the molecule-like structure of unstable nuclei. One of the earliest discussions on the clustering in unstable nuclei was made for neutron-rich Be and B isotopes. AMD calculations predicted that the ground state clustering is enhanced or reduced depending on the number of excess neutrons. Today, the experiments are confirming this prediction as the change of the proton radii. Behind this enhancement and reduction of the clustering, there are underlying shell effects called molecular- and atomic-orbits. These orbits form covalent and ionic bonding of the clusters analogous to the atomic molecules. It was found that this molecular-orbit picture reasonably explains the low-lying spectra of Be isotopes. The molecular-orbit picture is extended to other systems having parity asymmetric cluster cores and to the three cluster systems. O and Ne isotopes are the candidates of the former, while the $3alpha$ linear chains in C isotopes are the latter. For both subjects, many intensive studies are now in progress. We also pay a special attention to the observables which are the fingerprint of the clustering. In particular, we focus on the monopole and dipole transitions which are recently regarded as good probe for the clustering. We discuss how they have and will reveal the exotic clustering.
In the light of recent experimental developments, increasing attention is devoted to nuclear phenomena related to rotational excitations of exotic intrinsic nuclear configurations that often lack symmetries present in the majority of nuclei. Examples include configurations with a non-vanishing octupole moment. In order to describe this kind of states, we have developed a new computer code to solve the self-consistent mean-field equations, able to use most of todays effective Skyrme interactions and working in coordinate-space. We report on the development of MOCCa, a code based on the same principles as EV8, but offering the user individual control on many symmetry assumptions. In addition, the HF+BCS pairing treatment of EV8 has been generalised to the full machinery of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov transformations. We discuss as example the static fission barrier of $^{226}$Ra, prefacing extended studies in the region, using the recent series of Skyrme parameterizations SLy5s1 through SLy5s8.

Beyond mean-field methods are very successful tools for the description of large-amplitude collective motion for even-even atomic nuclei. The state-of-the-art framework of these methods consists in a Generator Coordinate Method based on angular-momen tum and particle-number projected triaxially deformed Hatree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) states. The extension of this scheme to odd-mass nuclei is a long-standing challenge. We present for the first time such an extension, where the Generator Coordinate space is built from self-consistently blocked one-quasiparticle HFB states. One of the key points for this success is that the same Skyrme interaction is used for the mean-field and the pairing channels, thus avoiding problems related to the violation of the Pauli principle. An application to 25Mg illustrates the power of our method, as agreement with experiment is obtained for the spectrum, electromagnetic moments, and transition strengths, for both positive and negative parity states and without the necessity for effective charges or effective moments. Although the effective interaction still requires improvement, our study opens the way to systematically describe odd-A nuclei throughout the nuclear chart.
