We have studied the anomalous behaviour of isotopic shifts of Pb nuclei in the relativistic mean field theory. It has been shown that the relativistic mean field provides an excellent description of the anomalous kink in the isotopic shifts about $^{208}$Pb. This is in contrast from density-dependent Skyrme forces which do not reproduce the observed trend in the empirical data on the charge radii. We discuss some differences in the description of isotope shifts in the RMF theory and the Skyrme mean field.

A systematic study of the ground-state properties of even-even rare earth nuclei has been performed in the framework of the Relativistic Mean-Field (RMF) theory using the parameter set NL-SH. Nuclear radii, isotope shifts and deformation properties o f the heavier rare-earth nuclei have been obtained, which encompass atomic numbers ranging from Z=60 to Z=70 and include a large range of isospin. It is shown that RMF theory is able to provide a good and comprehensive description of the empirical binding energies of the isotopic chains. At the same time the quadrupole deformations $beta_{2}$ obtained in the RMF theory are found to be in good agreement with the available empirical values. The theory predicts a shape transition from prolate to oblate for nuclei at neutron number N=78 in all the chains. A further addition of neutrons up to the magic number 82 brings about the spherical shape. For nuclei above N=82, the RMF theory predicts the well-known onset of prolate deformation at about N=88, which saturates at about N=102. The deformation properties display an identical behaviour for all the nuclear chains. A good description of the above deformation transitions in the RMF theory in all the isotopic chains leads to a successful reproduction of the anomalous behaviour of the empirical isotopic shifts of the rare-earth nuclei. The RMF theory exhibits a remarkable success in providing a unified and microscopic description of various empirical data.
Isotope shifts of $^{223-226,228}$Ra$^{19}$F were measured for different vibrational levels in the electronic transition $A^{2}{}{Pi}_{1/2}leftarrow X^{2}{}{Sigma}^{+}$. The observed isotope shifts demonstrate the particularly high sensitivity of rad ium monofluoride to nuclear size effects, offering a stringent test of models describing the electronic density within the radium nucleus. Ab initio quantum chemical calculations are in excellent agreement with experimental observations. These results highlight some of the unique opportunities that short-lived molecules could offer in nuclear structure and in fundamental symmetry studies.
New parameter sets for the Lagrangian density in the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory, PK1 with nonlinear sigma- and omega-meson self-coupling, PK1R with nonlinear sigma-, omega- and rho-meson self-coupling and PKDD with the density-dependent mes on-nucleon coupling, are proposed. They are able to provide an excellent description not only for the properties of nuclear matter but also for the nuclei in and far from the valley of beta-stability. For the first time in the parametrization of the RMF Lagrangian density, the center-of-mass correction is treated by a microscopic way, which is essential to unify the description of nuclei from light to heavy regions with one effective interaction.
We apply the recently proposed RMF(BCS)* ansatz to study the charge radii of the potassium isotopic chain up to $^{52}$K. It is shown that the experimental data can be reproduced rather well, qualitatively similar to the Fayans nuclear density functi onal theory, but with a slightly better description of the odd-even staggerings (OES). Nonetheless, both methods fail for $^{50}$K and to a lesser extent for $^{48,52}$K. It is shown that if these nuclei are deformed with a $beta_{20}approx-0.2$, then one can obtain results consistent with experiments for both charge radii and spin-parities. We argue that beyond mean field studies are needed to properly describe the charge radii of these three nuclei, particularly for $^{50}$K.

Employing the quantal diffusion mechanism for multi-nucleon transfer, the double differential cross-sections are calculated for production of primary projectile-like and target-like fragments in collisions of ${}^{136}text{Xe}+{}^{208}text{Pb}$ syste m at $E_text{c.m.} =514$ MeV. Including de-excitation due to neutron emission, the cross-section for production of ${}^{210}text{Po}$, ${}^{222}text{Rn}$ and ${}^{224}text{Ra}$ isotopes are estimated and compared with data.
