A study of the 7Li(9Be,4He9Be)3H reaction at E{beam}=70 MeV has been performed using resonant particle spectroscopy techniques and provides a measurement of alpha-decaying states in 13C. Excited states are observed at 12.0, 13.4, 14.1, 14.6, 15.2, 16.8, 17.9, 18.7, 21.3 and 23.9 MeV. This study provides the first measurement of the three highest energy states. Angular distribution measurements have been performed and have been employed to indicate the transferred angular momentum for the populated states. These data are compared with recent speculations of the presence of chain-like structures in 13C.

Spectra of coincident charged particles from the reactions induced by a 52 MeV 7Li beam incident on a beryllium target were measured. Strong contributions of the 7Li quasi-free scattering off the alpha-cluster in 9Be nucleus were observed. This obser vation supports the conclusions from the study of complete fusion of weakly bound light nuclei at low energies that the fragility of the nuclei makes their fusion less probable.
A Multi-Channel Algebraic Scattering (MCAS) approach has been used to analyze the spectra of two hyper-nuclear systems, Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C. The splitting of the two odd-parity excited levels (1/2^- and 3/2^-) at 11 MeV excitation in Lambda-13C is driven mainly by the weak Lambda-nucleus spin-orbit force, but the splittings of the 3/2^+ and 5/2^+ levels in both Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C have a different origin. These cases appear to be dominated by coupling to the collective 2+ states of the core nuclei. Using simple phenomenological potentials as input to the MCAS method, the observed splitting and level ordering in Lambda-9Be is reproduced with the addition of a weak spin-spin interaction acting between the hyperon and the spin of the excited target. With no such spin-spin interaction, the level ordering in Lambda-9Be is inverted with respect to that currently observed. In both hyper-nuclei, our calculations suggest that there are additional low-lying resonant states in the Lambda-nucleus continua.
Gamow-Teller and dipole transitions to final states in 13B were studied via the 13C(t,3He) reaction at Et = 115 AMeV. Besides the strong Gamow-Teller transition to the 13B ground state, a weaker Gamow-Teller transition to a state at 3.6 MeV was found . This state was assigned a spin-parity of 3/2- by comparison with shell-model calculations using the WBP and WBT interactions which were modified to allow for mixing between nhw and (n+2)hw configurations. This assignment agrees with a recent result from a lifetime measurement of excited states in 13B. The shell-model calculations also explained the relatively large spectroscopic strength measured for a low-lying 1/2+ state at 4.83 MeV in 13B. The cross sections for dipole transitions up to Ex(13B)= 20 MeV excited via the 13C(t,3He) reaction were also compared with the shell-model calculations. The theoretical cross sections exceeded the data by a factor of about 1.8, which might indicate that the dipole excitations are quenched. Uncertainties in the reaction calculations complicate that interpretation.
The absolute cross section of the $^{13}$C($alpha$,n)$^{16}$O reaction has been measured at E$_{alpha}$ = 0.8 to 8.0 MeV with an overall accuracy of 4%. The precision is needed to subtract reliably a background in the observation of geo-neutrinos, e.g. in the KamLAND detector.

In a measurement of the 9Be(7Li,alpha 7Li)n alpha reaction at E = 52 MeV it is unambigously established for the first time that the 9Be excited states around 6.5 and 11.3 MeV decay into the alpha + 5He channel. This fact may support previous claims t hat the 11.3 MeV state is also a member of the ground state rotational band.
