We study dynamical properties of bouncing particles inside of channels with sinusoidal walls. Taking as parameters the amplitude and the phases between the walls we study the transmitivity and its dependence on these parameters. We find an analytical approximation for transmitivity for small amplitudes, which is corroborated by numerical calculation.

The exceptionally high mobility of carriers in graphene is one of its defining characteristics, especially in view of potential applications. Therefore it is of both practical and fundamental importance to understand the mechanisms responsible for li miting the values of mobility. The aim of the paper is to study theoretically one such mechanism, i.e. scattering on ripples. The transport properties of rippled graphene are studied using using single-band tight-binding model. Both the bond-length variation, corresponding to the vector potential in the effective mass picture, and fluctuating scalar potential are included in the formalism. The samples are modeled as self-similar surfaces characterized by the roughness exponent with values ranging from typical for graphene on SiO$_{2}$ to seen in suspended samples. The range of calculated resistivities and mobilities overlaps with experiment. The results presented here support the notion of rippling as one of the factors limiting the mobility.
Two deterministic models for Brownian motion are investigated by means of numerical simulations and kinetic theory arguments. The first model consists of a heavy hard disk immersed in a rarefied gas of smaller and lighter hard disks acting as a therm al bath. The second is the same except for the shape of the particles, which is now square. The basic difference of these two systems lies in the interaction: hard core elastic collisions make the dynamics of the disks chaotic whereas that of squares is not. Remarkably, this difference is not reflected in the transport properties of the two systems: simulations show that the diffusion coefficients, velocity correlations and response functions of the heavy impurity are in agreement with kinetic theory for both the chaotic and the non-chaotic model. The relaxation to equilibrium, however, is very sensitive to the kind of interaction. These observations are used to reconsider and discuss some issues connected to chaos, statistical mechanics and diffusion.

We report on optically induced transport phenomena in freely suspended channels containing a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). The submicron devices are fabricated in AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures by etching techniques. The photoresponse of the dev ices can be understood in terms of the combination of photogating and a photodoping effect. The hereby enhanced electronic conductance exhibits a time constant in the range of one to ten milliseconds.
In this Letter we suggest a simple and physically transparent analytical model of the pressure driven turbulent wall-bounded flows at high but finite Reynolds numbers Re. The model gives accurate qualitative description of the profiles of the mean-ve locity and Reynolds-stresses (second order correlations of velocity fluctuations) throughout the entire channel or pipe in the wide range of Re, using only three Re-independent parameters. The model sheds light on the long-standing controversy between supporters of the century-old log-law theory of von-K`arm`an and Prandtl and proposers of a newer theory promoting power laws to describe the intermediate region of the mean velocity profile.
