We show that an $SL(2,R)_L times SL(2,R)_R$ Chern-Simons theory coupled to a source on a manifold with the topology of a disk correctly describes the entropy of the AdS$_3$ black hole. The resulting boundary WZNW theory leads to two copies of a twisted Kac-Moody algebra, for which the respective Virasoro algebras have the same central charge $c$ as the corresponding untwisted theory. But the eigenvalues of the respective $L_0$ operators are shifted. We show that the asymptotic density of states for this theory is, up to logarithmic corrections, the same as that obtained by Strominger using the asymptotic symmetry of Brown and Henneaux.

A multidimensional gravitational model containing scalar fields and antisymmetric forms is considered. The manifold is chosen in the form $M = M_0 times M_1 times cdots times M_n$, where $M_i$ are Einstein spaces ($i geq 1$). The sigma-model approach and exact solutions with intersecting composite branes (e.g. solutions with harmonic functions, $S$-brane and black brane ones) with intersection rules related to non-singular Kac-Moody (KM) algebras (e.g. hyperbolic ones) are reviewed. Some examples of solutions, e.g. corresponding to hyperbolic KM algebras: $H_2(q,q)$, $AE_3$, $HA_2^{(1)}$, $E_{10}$ and Lorentzian KM algebra $P_{10}$ are presented.

We present a construction which associates an infinite sequence of Kac-Moody algebras, labeled by a positive integer n, to one single Jordan algebra. For n=1, this reduces to the well known Kantor-Koecher-Tits construction. Our generalization utilize s a new relation between different generalized Jordan triple systems, together with their known connections to Jordan and Lie algebras. Applied to the Jordan algebra of hermitian 3x3 matrices over the division algebras R, C, H, O, the construction gives the exceptional Lie algebras f4, e6, e7, e8 for n=2. Moreover, we obtain their infinite-dimensional extensions for n greater or equal to 3. In the case of 2x2 matrices the resulting Lie algebras are of the form so(p+n,q+n) and the concomitant nonlinear realization generalizes the conformal transformations in a spacetime of signature (p,q).
We revisit the covariant phase space formalism applied to gravitational theories with null boundaries, utilizing the most general boundary conditions consistent with a fixed null normal. To fix the ambiguity inherent in the Wald-Zoupas definition of quasilocal charges, we propose a new principle, based on holographic reasoning, that the flux be of Dirichlet form. This also produces an expression for the analog of the Brown-York stress tensor on the null surface. Defining the algebra of charges using the Barnich-Troessaert bracket for open subsystems, we give a general formula for the central -- or more generally, abelian -- extensions that appear in terms of the anomalous transformation of the boundary term in the gravitational action. This anomaly arises from having fixed a frame for the null normal, and we draw parallels between it and the holographic Weyl anomaly that occurs in AdS/CFT. As an application of this formalism, we analyze the near-horizon Virasoro symmetry considered by Haco, Hawking, Perry, and Strominger, and perform a systematic derivation of the fluxes and central charges. Applying the Cardy formula to the result yields an entropy that is twice the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the horizon. Motivated by the extended Hilbert space construction, we interpret this in terms of a pair of entangled CFTs associated with edge modes on either side of the bifurcation surface.

We propose a new non-holographic formulation of AdS/CFT correspondence, according to which quantum gravity on AdS and its dual non-gravitational field theory both live in the same number D of dimensions. The field theory, however, appears (D-1)-dimen sional because the interactions do not propagate in one of the dimensions. The D-dimensional action for the field theory can be identified with the sum over (D-1)-dimensional actions with all possible values $Lambda$ of the UV cutoff, so that the extra hidden dimension can be identified with $Lambda$. Since there are no interactions in the extra dimension, most of the practical results of standard holographic AdS/CFT correspondence transcribe to non-holographic AdS/CFT without any changes. However, the implications on black-hole entropy change significantly. The maximal black-hole entropy now scales with volume, while the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is interpreted as the minimal possible black-hole entropy. In this way, the non-holographic AdS/CFT correspondence offers a simple resolution of the black-hole information paradox, consistent with a recently proposed gravitational crystal.
Holography relates the quasinormal modes frequencies of AdS black holes to the pole structure of the dual field theory propagator. These modes thus provide the timescale for the approach to thermal equilibrium in the CFT. Here, we study how such pole structure and, in particular, the time to equilibrium can get modified in the presence of a black hole hair. More precisely, we consider in AdS a set of relaxed boundary conditions that allow for a low decaying graviton mode near the boundary, which triggers an additional degree of freedom. We solve the scalar field response on such background analytically and non-perturbatively in the hair parameter, and we obtain how the pole structure gets affected by the presence of a black hole hair, relative to that of the usual AdS black hole geometry. The setup we consider is a massive 3D gravity theory, which admits a one-parameter family deformation of BTZ solution and enables us to solve the problem analytically. The theory also admits an AdS$_3$ soliton which gives a family of vacua that can be constructed from the hairy black hole by means of a double Wick rotation. The spectrum of normal modes on the latter geometry can also be solved analytically; we study its properties in relation to those of the AdS$_3$ vacuum.
