After some general remarks on non-perturbative QCD I present shortly models which lead to a color-electric flux tube formation. The implications of such a flux tube formation especially on high energy scattering are discussed.

Recently we provided a microscopic derivation of the exact supergravity profile for the twisted scalar field emitted by systems of fractional D3-branes at a Z2 orbifold singularity. In this contribution we focus on a set-up supporting an N = 2 SYM th eory with SU(2) gauge group and Nf=4. We take into account the tower of D-instanton corrections to the source terms for the twisted scalar and find that its profile can be expressed in terms of the chiral ring elements of the gauge theory. We show how the twisted scalar, which at the perturbative level represents the gravity counterpart of the gauge coupling, at the non-perturbative level is related to the effective gauge coupling in an interestingly modified way.

This PhD dissertation is devoted to a non-perturbative study of QCD correlators. The main tool that we use is lattice QCD. We concentrated our efforts on the study of the main correlators of the pure Yang - Mills theory in the Landau gauge, namely th e ghost and the gluon propagators. We are particularly interested in determining the $Lqcd$ parameter. It is extracted by means of perturbative predictions available up to NNNLO. The related topic is the influence of non-perturbative effects that show up as appearance of power-corrections to the low-momentum behaviour of the Green functions. A new method of removing these power corrections allows a better estimate of $Lqcd$. Our result is $Lambda^{n_f=0}_{ms} = 269(5)^{+12}_{-9}$ MeV. Another question that we address is the infrared behaviour of Green functions, at momenta of order and below $Lqcd$. At low energy the momentum dependence of the propagators changes considerably, and this is probably related to confinement. The lattice approach allows to check the predictions of analytical methods because it gives access to non-perturbative correlators. According to our analysis the gluon propagator is finite and non-zero at vanishing momentum, and the power-law behaviour of the ghost propagator is the same as in the free case.

In this thesis we investigate some aspects of quantum field theories from a holographic perspective. In the first chapters we examine in detail a one-paremeter family of three-dimensional gauge theories by means of their type IIA gravity duals. We an alyse features such as their confinement nature, spectrum, entanglement properties or thermal phase transitions. This family interpolates between quasi-conformal and quasi-confining physics. In the last two chapters, we use bottom-up models to study complex conformal field theories and transport properties of dense QCD respectively.

Recent developments in non-perturbative renormalization for lattice QCD are reviewed with a particular emphasis on RI/MOM scheme and its variants, RI/SMOM schemes. Summary of recent developments in Schroedinger functional scheme, as well as the summa ry of related topics are presented. Comparison of strong coupling constant and the strange quark mass from various methods are made.
We consider the Quasilocal Quark Model of NJL type (QNJLM) as an effective theory of non-perturbative QCD including scalar (S), pseudoscalar (P), vector (V) and axial-vector (A) four-fermion interaction with derivatives. In the presence of a strong a ttraction in the scalar channel the chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken and as a consequence the composite meson states are generated in all channels. With the help of Operator Product Expansion the appropriate set of Chiral Symmetry Restoration (CSR) Sum Rules in these channels are imposed as matching conditions to QCD at intermediate energies. The mass spectrum and some decay constants for ground and excited meson states are calculated.
