Inspired by recent measurements with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab, we perform a self-consistent analysis of world data on the proton structure function g1 in the range 0.17 < Q2 < 30 (GeV/c)**2. We compute for the first time low-order moments of g1 and study their evolution from small to large values of Q2. The analysis includes the latest data on both the unpolarized inclusive cross sections and the ratio R = sigmaL / sigmaT from Jefferson Lab, as well as a new model for the transverse asymmetry A2 in the resonance region. The contributions of both leading and higher twists are extracted, taking into account effects from radiative corrections beyond the next-to-leading order by means of soft-gluon resummation techniques. The leading twist is determined with remarkably good accuracy and is compared with the predictions obtained using various polarized parton distribution sets available in the literature. The contribution of higher twists to the g1 moments is found to be significantly larger than in the case of the unpolarized structure function F2.

We present the first extraction of the transversity distribution in the framework of collinear factorization based on the global analysis of pion-pair production in deep-inelastic scattering off transversely polarized targets and in proton-proton col lisions with one transversely polarized proton. The extraction relies on the knowledge of di-hadron fragmentation functions, which are taken from the analysis of electron-positron annihilation data. For the first time, the chiral-odd transversity is extracted from a global analysis similar to what is usually done for the chiral-even spin-averaged and helicity distributions. The knowledge of transversity is important for, among other things, detecting possible signals of new physics in high-precision low-energy experiments.
We develop a theoretical framework to investigate the two-body composite structure of a resonance as well as a bound state from its wave function. For this purpose, we introduce both one-body bare states and two-body scattering states, and define the compositeness as a fraction of the contribution of the two-body wave function to the normalization of the total wave function. Writing down explicitly the wave function for a resonance state obtained with a general separable interaction, we formulate the compositeness in terms of the position of the resonance pole, the residue of the scattering amplitude at the pole and the derivative of the Green function of the free two-body scattering system. At the same time, our formulation provides the elementariness expressed with the resonance properties and the two-body effective interaction, and confirms the sum rule showing that the summation of the compositeness and elementariness gives unity. In this formulation the Weinbergs relation for the scattering length and effective range can be derived in the weak binding limit. The extension to the resonance states is performed with the Gamow vector, and a relativistic formulation is also established. As its applications, we study the compositeness of the $Lambda (1405)$ resonance and the light scalar and vector mesons described with refined amplitudes in coupled-channel models with interactions up to the next to leading order in chiral perturbation theory. We find that $Lambda (1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ are dominated by the $bar{K} N$ and $K bar{K}$ composite states, respectively, while the vector mesons $rho (770)$ and $K^{ast} (892)$ are elementary. We also briefly discuss the compositeness of $N (1535)$ and $Lambda (1670)$ obtained in a leading-order chiral unitary approach.
We perform a global analysis of all available spin-dependent proton structure function data, covering a large range of Q^2, 1 < Q^2 < 30 GeV^2, and calculate the lowest moment of the g_1 structure function as a function of Q^2. From the Q^2 dependenc e of the lowest moment we extract matrix elements of twist-4 operators, and determine the color electric and magnetic polarizabilities of the proton to be chi_E = 0.026 +- 0.015 (stat) + 0.021/-0.024 (sys) and chi_B = -0.013 -+ 0.007 (stat) - 0.010/+0.012 (sys), respectively.

We explore the application of a two-component model of proton structure functions in the analysis of deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) data at low $Q^2$ and small $x$. This model incorporates both vector meson dominance and the correct photo-production limit. The CJ15 parameterization is applied to the QCD component, in order to take into account effects of order $1/Q^2$ effects, such as target mass corrections and higher twist contributions. The parameters of the leading twist parton distribution functions and higher twist coefficient functions are determined by fitting deep inelastic scattering data. The second moments of the parton distribution functions are extracted and compared with other global fits and lattice determinations.
We discuss recent experimental results concerning the cross section ratio of positron over electron elastic scattering on protons, and compare with the predictions of a pre-existent calculation. The deviation from unity of this ratio, $i.e.$, a charg e asymmetry different from zero, is the signature of contributions beyond the Born approximation. After reviewing the published results, we compare the elastic data to a calculation which includes the diagram corresponding to two-photon exchange. It turns out that all the data on the cross section ratio, in the limit of their precision, do not show evidence of enhanced two-photon contribution beyond the expected percent level. Our results confirm that experimental evidence for a large contribution of two-photon exchange is not yet found.
