We present the full next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) coefficient functions for the polarized cross section $dDelta sigma/dQ$ for the Drell-Yan process $p + pto l^+l^- + X$. Here $X$ denotes any inclusive hadronic state and $Q$ represents the invariant mass of the lepton pair. All QCD partonic subprocesses have been included provided the lepton pair is created by a virtual photon, which is a valid approximation for $Q<50$ GeV. Unlike the differential distribution w.r.t. transverse momentum the dominant subprocess for the integrated cross section is given by $q+bar q to gamma^* + X$ and its higher order corrections so that massive lepton pair production provides us with an excellent tool to measure the polarized anti-quark densities. Our calculations are carried out using the method of $n$-dimensional regularization by making a special choice for the $gamma_5$ matrix. We give predictions for double longitudinal spin asymmetry measurements at the RHIC.

This paper presents the high-precision theoretical predictions for $e^+e^- to l^-l^+$ scattering. Calculations are performed using the {tt SANC} system. They take into account complete one-loop electroweak radiative corrections as well as longitudina l polarization of initial beams. Reaction observables are obtained using the helicity amplitude method with taking into account initial and final state fermion masses. Numerical results are given for the center-of-mass energy range $sqrt{s}=250-1000$ GeV with various degrees of polarization.

We examine the intrinsic spin-dependence of the dominant $gg rightarrow gggg$ subprocess contribution to four-jet production in polarized proton-proton collisions using helicity amplitude techniques. We find that the partonic level, longitudinal spin -spin asymmetry, $hat{a}_{LL}$, is intrinsically large in the kinematic regions probed in experiments detecting four isolated jets. Such events may provide another qualitative or semi-quantitative test of the spin-structure of QCD in planned polarized $pp$ collisions at RHIC.
The reaction $NN to NN pi$ offers a good testing ground for chiral effective field theory at intermediate energies. It challenges our understanding of the first inelastic channel in nucleon-nucleon scattering and of the charge-symmetry breaking patte rn in hadronic reactions. In our previous studies, we presented a complete calculation of the pion-production operator for s-wave pions up-to-and-including next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in the formulation of chiral effective field theory, which includes pions, nucleons and $Delta(1232)$ degrees of freedom. In this paper we calculate the near threshold cross section for the $pp to d pi^{+}$ reaction by performing the convolution of the obtained operators with nuclear wave functions based on modern phenomenological and chiral potentials. The available chiral $NN$ wave functions are constructed with a cutoff comparable with the momentum transfer scale inherent in pion production reactions. Hence, a significant portion of the dynamical intermediate-range physics is thereby cut off by them. On the other hand, the NNLO amplitudes evaluated with phenomenological wave functions appear to be largely independent of the $NN$ model used and give corrections to the dominant leading order contributions as expected from dimensional analysis. The result gives support to the counting scheme used to classify the pion production operators, which is a precondition for a reliable investigation of the chirally suppressed neutral pion production. The explicit inclusion of the $Delta(1232)$ is found to be important but smaller than expected due to cancellations.
The two-pion production reaction $vec{p}pto pppi^+pi^-$ was measured with a polarized proton beam at $T_p approx$ 750 and 800 MeV using the short version of the COSY-TOF spectrometer. The implementation of a delayed pulse technique for Quirl and cent ral calorimeter provided positive $pi^+$ identification in addition to the standard particle identification, energy determination as well as time-of-flight and angle measurements. Thus all four-momenta of the emerging particles could be determined with 1-4 overconstraints. Total and differential cross sections as well as angular distributions of the vector analyzing power have been obtained. They are compared to previous data and theoretical calculations. In contrast to predictions we find significant analyzing power values up to $A_y$ = 0.3.

We calculate the parametrically dominant next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to four-fermion production e^- e^+ -> mu^- nubar_mu u dbar + X at centre-of-mass energies near the W-pair production threshold employing the method of unstable-particl e effective theory. In total the correction is small, leading to a shift of 3 MeV in the W-mass measurement. We also discuss the implementation of realistic cuts and provide a result for the interference of single-Coulomb and soft radiative corrections that can easily be extended to include an arbitrary number of Coulomb photons.
