An estimation of the sensitivity to measure Bs-Bsbar oscillations with the ATLAS detector is given for the detector geometry of initial layout. The delta ms reach is derived from unbinned maximum likelihood amplitude fits using Bs0 events generated with a simplified Monte Carlo method.

Several methods for the determination of the mass of the top quark with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. All dominant decay channels of the top quark can be explored. The measurements are in most cases dominated by systematic uncertaintie s. New methods have been developed to control those related to the detector. The results indicate that a total error on the top mass at the level of 1 GeV should be achievable.

We report on the potential for the discovery of a Standard Model Higgs boson with the vector boson fusion mechanism in the mass range $115<M_H<500 gev/$c$^2$ with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Feasibility studies at hadron level followed by a fast detector simulation have been performed for $Hto W^{(*)}W^{(*)}to l^+l^-sla{p_T}$, $Htogammagamma$ and $Hto ZZto l^+l^-qbar{q}$. The preliminary results obtained here show a large discovery potential in the range $115<M_H<300 gev/$c$^2$. Results obtained with multivariate techniques are reported for a number of channels.

The High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider is expected to deliver up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV center-of-mass energy. We present prospects for selected heavy-ion, Standard Model and Higgs sector measurements with the CMS detector at the HL-LHC, and discuss potential sensitivity to several beyond-Standard Model new physics scenarios.

A correct modelling of the underlying event in proton-proton collisions is important for the proper simulation of kinematic distributions of high-energy collisions. The ATLAS collaboration extended previous studies at 7 TeV with a leading track or je t or Z boson by a new study of Drell-Yan events in 1.1 1/fb of data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. In this new study the distributions of several topological event-shape variables based on charged particles are measured, both integrated and differential in the transverse momentum of the Drell-Yan lepton pair. These measurements are sensitive to the underlying-event as well as the onset of hard emissions. The results have been compared with the predictions of several state-of-the-art MC generators. The collaboration has also performed a first study of the number and transverse momentum sum of charged particles as a function of transverse momentum and azimuthal angle in a special data set taken with low beam currents at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The results are compared to predictions of several MC generators.

Prompt photons are a powerful tool to study heavy ion collisions. Their production rates provide access to the initial state parton distribution functions and also provide a means to calibrate the expected energy of jets that are produced in the medi um. The ATLAS detector measures photons with its hermetic, longitudinally segmented calorimeter, which gives excellent spatial and energy resolutions, and detailed information about the shower shape of each measured photon. This provides significant rejection against the expected background from the decays of neutral pions in jets. Rejection against jet fragmentation products is further enhanced by requiring candidate photons to be isolated. First results on the spectra of isolated prompt photons from a dataset with an integrated luminosity of approximately 0.13 nb^-1 of lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=2.76 TeV are shown as a function of transverse momentum and centrality. The measured spectra are compared to expectations from perturbative QCD calculations.
