Focusing on a quantum-limit behavior, we study a single vortex in a clean s-wave type-II superconductor by self-consistently solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation. The discrete energy levels of the vortex bound states in the quantum limit is discussed. The vortex core radius shrinks monotonically up to an atomic-scale length on lowering the temperature T, and the shrinkage stops to saturate at a lower T. The pair potential, supercurrent, and local density of states around the vortex exhibit Friedel-like oscillations. The local density of states has particle-hole asymmetry induced by the vortex. These are potentially observed directly by STM.
Low lying excitations of electron liquids in the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) regime are studied by resonant inelastic light scattering methods. We present here results from charge and spin excitations of FQH states in the lowest spin-split Landau l
We investigate quasi-particle excitation modes and the topological number of a fractional-flux quantum vortex in a layered (multi-component) superconductor. The Bogoliubov equation for a half-flux quantum vortex is solved to show that there is no low
We theoretically investigate the quasiparticle scattering rate $varGamma$ inside a vortex core in the existence of non-magnetic impurities distributed randomly in a superconductor. We show that the dependence of $varGamma$ on the magnetic field direc
We report the first photoemission study of Fe1+xTe - the host compound of the newly discovered iron-chalcogenide superconductors. Our results reveal a pair of nearly electron- hole compensated Fermi pockets, strong Fermi velocity renormalization and
We have measured the low temperature heat capacity Cp and microwave surface impedance Zs in the vortex state of YNi_2B_2C. In contrast to conventional s-wave superconductors, Cp shows a nearly sqrt H-dependence. This sqrt H-dependence persists even a
