We characterize the ground state and excitation spectrum of the $S=1/2$, nominally pure and perfect kagom{e} system ZnCu$_{3}$(OH)$_{6}$Cl$_{2}$ using the following measurements: magnetization, muon spin rotation frequency shift $K$, transverse relaxation time $T_{2}^{ast}$, and zero field relaxation, and Cl nuclear spin-lattice relaxation $T_{1}$. We found no sign of singlet formation, no long range order or spin freezing, and no sign of spin-Peierls transition even at temperatures as low as 60 mK. The density of states has $E^{1/4}$ energy dependence with a negligible gap to excitation.
Spin liquids are exotic phases of quantum matter challenging Landaus paradigm of symmetry-breaking phase transitions. Despite strong exchange interactions, spins do not order or freeze down to zero temperature. While well-established for 1D quantum a
Nearest-neighbor interacting S = 1/2 spins on the ideal Kagom{e} lattice are predicted to form a variety of novel quantum entangled states, including quantum spin-liquid (SL) and valence bond solid (VBS) phases. In real materials, the presence of add
Motivated by the observation of a disordered spin ground state in the $S=3/2$ material Bi$_3$Mn$_4$O$_{12}$NO$_3$, we study the ground state properties and excitation spectra of the $S=3/2$ (and for comparison $S=1/2$) bilayer Heisenberg model on the
The competition between the tendency of magnetic moments to order at low temperatures, and the tendency of conduction electrons to shield these moments, can result in a phase transition that takes place at zero Kelvin, the quantum critical point (QCP
H3LiIr2O6 is the first honeycomb-lattice system without any signs of long-range magnetic order down to the lowest temperatures, raising the hope for the realization of an ideal Kitaev quantum spin liquid. Its honeycomb layers are coupled by interlaye
