The effect of an insulating barrier located at a distance $a$ from a NS quantum point contact is analyzed in this work. The Bogoliubov de Gennes equations are solved for NINS junctions (S: anysotropic superconductor, I: insulator and N: normal metal), where the NIN region is a quantum wire. For $% a eq0$, bound states and resonances in the differential conductance are predicted. These resonances depend on the symmetry of the pair potential, the strength of the insulating barrier and $a $. Our results show that in a NINS quantum point contact the number of resonances vary with the symmetry of the order parameter. This is to be contrasted with the results for the NINS junction, in which only the position of the resonances changes with the symmetry.

We consider a superconducting quantum point contact in a circuit quantum electrodynamics setup. We study three different configurations, attainable with current technology, where a quantum point contact is coupled galvanically to a coplanar waveguide resonator. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the strong and ultrastrong coupling regimes can be achieved with realistic parameters, allowing the coherent exchange between a superconducting quantum point contact and a quantized intracavity field.
Magneto-fluctuations of the normal resistance R_N have been reproducibly observed in high critical temp erature superconductor (HTS) grain boundary junctions, at low temperatures. We attribute them to mesoscopic transport in narrow channels across th e grain boundary line. The Thouless energy appears to be the relevant energy scale. Our findings have significant implications on quasiparticle relaxation and coherent transport in HTS grain boundaries.
Topological superconductors give rise to unconventional superconductivity, which is mainly characterized by the symmetry of the superconducting pairing amplitude. However, since the symmetry of the superconducting pairing amplitude is not directly ob servable, its experimental identification is rather difficult. In our work, we propose a system, composed of a quantum point contact and proximity induced s-wave superconductivity at the helical edge of a two dimensional topological insulator, for which we demonstrate the presence of odd-frequency pairing and its intimate connection to unambiguous transport signatures. Notably, our proposal requires no time-reversal symmetry breaking terms. We discover the domination of crossed Andreev reflection over electron cotunneling in a wide range of parameter space, which is a quite unusual transport regime.
Our previous point-contact Andreev reflection studies of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn$_5$ using Au tips have shown two clear features: reduced Andreev signal and asymmetric background conductance [1]. To explore their physical origins, we have extended our measurements to point-contact junctions between single crystalline heavy-fermion metals and superconducting Nb tips. Differential conductance spectra are taken on junctions with three heavy-fermion metals, CeCoIn$_5$, CeRhIn$_5$, and YbAl$_3$, each with different electron mass. In contrast with Au/CeCoIn$_5$ junctions, Andreev signal is not reduced and no dependence on effective mass is observed. A possible explanation based on a two-fluid picture for heavy fermions is proposed. [1] W. K. Park et al., Phys. Rev. B 72 052509 (2005); W. K. Park et al., Proc. SPIE-Int. Soc. Opt. Using non-equilibrium Greens functions, we studied numerically the transport properties of a Josephson junction, superconductor-topological insulator-superconductor hybrid system. Our numerical calculation shows first that proximity-induced supercond uctivity is indeed observed in the edge states of a topological insulator adjoining two superconducting leads and second that the special characteristics of topological insulators endow the edge states with an enhanced proximity effect with a superconductor but do not forbid the bulk states to do the same. In a size-dependent analysis of the local current, it was found that a few residual bulk states can lead to measurable resistance, whereas because these bulk states spread over the whole sample, their contribution to the interference pattern is insignificant when the sample size is in the micrometer range. Based on these numerical results, it is concluded that the apparent disappearance of residual bulk states in the superconducting interference process as described in Ref. [onlinecite{HartNautrePhys2014f}] is just due to the effects of size: the contribution of the topological edge states outweighs that of the residual bulk states.
