We have observed a strongly broadened Raman band of MgB2 that shows anomalously large pressure dependence of its frequency. This band and its pressure dependence can be interpreted as the E2g zone center phonon, which is strongly anharmonic because of coupling to electronic excitations. The pressure dependence of Tc was measured to 14 GPa in hydrostatic conditions and can be explained only when a substantial pressure dependence of the Hopfield parameter h=N(0)<I2>~(V0/V)^2.3(6)is taken into account.
We present measurements of the superconducting critical temperature Tc and upper critical field Hc2 as a function of pressure in the transition metal dichalcogenide 2H-NbS2 up to 20 GPa. We observe that Tc increases smoothly from 6K at ambient pressu
re to about 8.9K at 20GPa. This range of increase is comparable to the one found previously in 2H-NbSe2. The temperature dependence of the upper critical field Hc2(T) of 2H-NbS2 varies considerably when increasing the pressure. At low pressures, Hc2(0) decreases, and at higher pressures both Tc and Hc2(0) increase simultaneously. This points out that there are pressure induced changes of the Fermi surface, which we analyze in terms of a simplified two band approach.
The high field magnetization and magneto transport measurements are carried out to determine the critical superconducting parameters of MgB2-xCx system. The synthesized samples are pure phase and the lattice parameters evaluation is carried out using
the Rietveld refinement. The R-T(H) measurements are done up to a field of 140 kOe. The upper critical field values, Hc2 are obtained from this data based upon the criterion of 90% of normal resistivity i.e. Hc2=H at which Rho=90%Rho; where RhoN is the normal resistivity i.e., resistivity at about 40 K in our case. The Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg (WHH) prediction of Hc(0) underestimates the critical field value even below than the field up to which measurement is carried out. After this the model, the Ginzburg Landau theory (GL equation) is applied to the R-T(H) data which not only calculates the Hc2(0) value but also determines the dependence of Hc2 on temperature in the low temperature high field region. The estimated Hc(0)=157.2 kOe for pure MgB2 is profoundly enhanced to 297.5 kOe for the x=0.15 sample in MgB2-xCx series. Magnetization measurements are done up to 120 kOe at different temperatures and the other parameters like irreversibility field, Hirr and critical current density Jc(H) are also calculated. The nano carbon doping results in substantial enhancement of critical parameters like Hc2, Hirr and Jc(H) in comparison to the pure MgB2 sample.
Two principles govern the critical temperature for superconducting transitions: (1)~intrinsic strength of the pair coupling and (2)~effect of the many-body environment on the efficiency of that coupling. Most discussions take into account only the fi
rst but we argue that the properties of unconventional superconductors are governed more often by the second, through dynamical symmetry relating normal and superconducting states. Differentiating these effects is essential to charting a path to the highest-temperature superconductors.
We have studied the evolution, with hydrostatic pressure, of the recently discovered superconductivity in the graphite intercalation compounds C$_6$Yb and C$_6$Ca. We present pressure-temperature phase diagrams, for both superconductors, established
by electrical transport and magnetization measurements. In the range 0-1.2 GPa the superconducting transition temperature increases linearly with pressure in both materials with $dT_c/dP = +0.39 K/GPa$ and $dT_c/dP = +0.50 K/GPa$ for C$_6$Yb and C$_6$Ca respectively. The transition temperature in C$_6$Yb, which has beenmeasured up to 2.3 GPa, reaches a peak at around 1.8 GPa and then starts to drop. We also discuss how this pressure dependence may be explained within a plasmon pairing mechanism.
Key properties of the cuprates, such as the pseudogap observed above the critical temperature $T_c$, remain highly debated. Given their importance, we recently proposed a novel mechanism based on the Bose-like condensation of mutually interacting Coo
per pairs [W. Sacks, A. Mauger, Y. Noat, Superconduct. Sci. Technol. 28 105014, (2015)]. In this work, we calculate the temperature dependent DOS using this model for different doping levels from underdoped to overdoped. In all situations, due to the presence of excited pairs, a pseudogap is found above $T_c$ while the normal DOS is recovered at $T^*$, the pair formation temperature. A similar behavior is found as a function of magnetic field, crossing a vortex, where a pseudogap exists in the vortex core. We show that the precise DOS shape depends on combined pair (boson) and quasiparticle (fermion) excitations, allowing for a deeper understanding of the SC to the PG transition.
