The low mass X-ray binary system 4U 1812-12 was monitored with the INTEGRAL observatory in the period 2003-2004 and with BeppoSAX on April 20, 2000. We report here on the spectral and temporal analysis of both persistent and burst emission. The full data set confirms the persistent nature of this burster, and reveals the presence of emission up to 200 keV. The persistent spectrum is well described by a comptonization (CompTT) model plus a soft blackbody component. The source was observed in a hard spectral state with a 1-200 keV luminosity of 2*10^(36) ergs/s and L/LEdd~1% and no meaningful flux variation has been revealed, as also confirmed by a 2004 RXTE observation. We have also detected 4 bursts showing double peaked profiles and blackbody spectra with temperatures ranging from 1.9 to 3.1 keV.

The persistent, low-luminosity neutron star X-ray binary 4U 1812-12 is a potential member of the scarce family of ultra-compact systems. We performed deep photometric and spectroscopic optical observations with the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias in order to investigate the chemical composition of the accreted plasma, which is a proxy for the donor star class. We detect a faint optical counterpart (g~25, r~23) that is located in the background of the outskirts of the Sharpless 54 H II region, whose characteristic nebular lines superimpose on the X-ray binary spectrum. Once this is corrected for, the actual source spectrum lacks hydrogen spectral features. In particular, the Halpha emission line is not detected, with an upper limit (3 sigma) on the equivalent width of <1.3 A. Helium (He I) lines are neither observed, albeit our constraints are not restrictive enough to properly test the presence of this element. We also provide stringent upper limits on the presence of emission lines from other elements, such as C and O, which are typically found in ultra-compact systems with C-O white dwarfs donors. The absence of hydrogen features, the persistent nature of the source at low luminosity, as well as the low optical to X-ray flux ratio confirm 4U 1812-12 as a compelling ultra-compact X-ray binary candidate, for which we tentatively propose a He-rich donor based on the optical spectrum and the detection of short thermonuclear X-ray bursts. In this framework, we discuss the possible orbital period of the system according to disc instability and evolutionary models.
We evaluated recent CLAS Collaboration measurements for the $90^circ$ meson photoproduction off the nucleon using a tagged photon beam spanning the energy interval $s = 3 - 11$ GeV$^2$. The results are compared with the Quark Counting Rules predictions.
We present detailed spectral and temporal characteristics both in the hard X-ray (>10 keV) and soft X-ray (<10 keV) domains, obtained using data from INTEGRAL, XMM-Newton, ASCA and RXTE. The INTEGRAL time-averaged total spectrum shows a power-law lik e shape with photon index Gamma = 0.93 +/- 0.06. 4U 0142+61 is detected up to 229 keV and the flux between 20 keV and 229 keV is (15.01 +/- 0.82) x 10^(-11) erg/cm^2/s. Using simultaneously collected data with the spectrometer SPI of INTEGRAL the combined total spectrum yields the first evidence for a spectral break with a peak energy of 228 +65/-41 keV. There is no evidence for significant long-term time variability of the total emission. Pulsed emission is measured with ISGRI up to 160 keV. The 20-160 keV profile shows a broad double-peaked pulse with a 6.2 sigma detection significance. The total pulsed spectrum can be described with a very hard power-law shape with a photon index Gamma = 0.40 +/- 0.15. We performed phase-resolved spectroscopy over the total high-energy band (2.8-300 keV) and identify at least three genuinely different pulse components with different spectra. The high level of consistency between the detailed results from the four missions is indicative for a remarkable stable geometry underlying the emission scenario.

We aim to see the sensitivity of collective transverse in-plane flow to symmetry energy at low as well as high densities and also to see the effect of different density dependencies of symmetry energy on the same.
We present a spectral and timing analysis of INTEGRAL observations of two high mass X-ray binaries, 4U 1538-522 and 4U 1907+09. Our timing measurements for 4U 1538-522 find the pulse period to have exhibited a spin-up trend until approximately 2009, after which there is evidence for a torque reversal, with the source beginning to spin down to the most recently-measured period of 525.407 +/- 0.001 s. The most recent INTEGRAL observations of 4U 1907+09 are not found to yield statistically significant pulse periods due to the significantly lower flux from the source compared to 4U 1538-522. A spectral model consisting of a power-law continuum with an exponential cutoff and modified by two cyclotron resonance scattering features is found to fit both sources well, with the cyclotron scattering features detected at ~22 and ~49 keV for 4U 1538-522 and at ~18 and ~36 keV in 4U 1907+09. The spectral parameters of 4U 1538-522 are generally not found to vary significantly with flux, and there is little to no variation across the torque reversal. Examining our results in conjunction with previous work, we find no evidence for a correlation between cyclotron line energy and luminosity for 4U 1538-522. 4U 1907+09 shows evidence for a positive correlation between cyclotron line energy and luminosity, which would make it the fourth, and lowest-luminosity, cyclotron line source to exhibit this relationship
