We present results of the long term monitoring of the gravitationally lensed quasar HE1104-1805. The photometric data were collected between August 1997 and January 2002 as a subproject of the OGLE survey. We determine the time delay in the light curves of images A and B of HE1104-1805 to be equal to 157+/-21 days with the variability in the image B light curve leading variability of the image A. The result is in excellent agreement with the earlier determination by Ofek and Maoz. OGLE photometry of HE1104-1805 is available to the astronomical community from the OGLE Internet archive.

We present results from 2 years of monitoring of Huchras lens (QSO 2237+0305) with the 1.3 m Warsaw telescope on Las Campanas, Chile. Photometry in the V band was done using a newly developed method for image subtraction. Reliable subtraction without Fourier division removes all complexities associated with the presence of a bright lensing galaxy. With positions of lensed images adopted from HST measurements it is relatively easy to fit the variable part of the flux in this system, as opposed to modeling of the underlying galaxy. For the first time we observed smooth light variation over a period of a few months, which can be naturally attributed to microlensing. We also describe automated software capable of real time analysis of the images of QSO 2237+0305. It is expected that starting from the next observing season in 1999 an alert system will be implemented for high amplification events (HAE) in this object. Time sampling and photometric accuracy achieved should be sufficient for early detection of caustic crossings.
The aim of this contribution is to present the two first phases of the optical monitoring programme of the Gravitational Lenses group at the Universidad de Cantabria (GLUC, http://grupos.unican.es/glendama/). In an initial stage (2003 March-June), th e Estacion de Observacion de Calar Alto (EOCA) was used to obtain VR frames of SBS 0909+532 and QSO 0957+561. These observations in 2003 led to accurate fluxes of the two components of both double QSOs, which are being compared and complemented with data from other 1-1.5 m telescopes located in the North Hemisphere: Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory (USA), Maidanak Observatory (Uzbekistan) and Wise Observatory (Israel). On the other hand, the GLUC started the second phase of its monitoring programme in 2005 January. In this second phase, they are using the 2 m fully robotic Liverpool Telescope (LT). The key idea is the two-band photometric follow-up of four lensed QSOs with different main lensing galaxies: SBS 0909+532 (elliptical), QSO 0957+561 (giant cD), B1600+434 (edge-on spiral) and QSO 2237+0305 (face-on spiral). Thus, the light rays associated with the components of the four gravitational mirages cross different galaxy environments, and the corresponding light curves could unveil the content of these environments. While SBS 0909+532 and QSO 0957+561 are the targets for the two first years with the LT (2005-2006), the rest of targets (B1600+434 and QSO 2237+0305) will be monitored starting from 2007.

Aims: We measure the redshift of the lensing galaxy in eight gravitationally lensed quasars in view of determining the Hubble parameter H_0 from the time delay method. Methods: Deep VLT/FORS1 spectra of lensed quasars are spatially deconvolved in o rder to separate the spectrum of the lensing galaxies from the glare of the much brighter quasar images. A new observing strategy is devised. It involves observations in Multi-Object-Spectroscopy (MOS) which allows the simultaneous observation of the target and of several PSF and flux calibration stars. The advantage of this method over traditional long-slit observations is a much more reliable extraction and flux calibration of the spectra. Results: For the first time we measure the redshift of the lensing galaxy in three multiply-imaged quasars: SDSS J1138+0314 (z=0.445), SDSS J1226-0006 (z=0.517), SDSS J1335+0118 (z=0.440), and we give a tentative estimate of the redshift of the lensing galaxy in Q 1355-2257 (z=0.701). We confirm four previously measured redshifts: HE 0047-1756 (z=0.407), HE 0230-2130 (z=0.523), HE 0435-1223 (z=0.454) and WFI J2033-4723 (z=0.661). In addition, we determine the redshift of the second lensing galaxy in HE 0230-2130 (z=0.526). The spectra of all lens galaxies are typical for early-type galaxies, except for the second lensing galaxy in HE 0230-2130 which displays prominent [OII] emission.
Aims: The knowledge of the redshift of a lensing galaxy that produces multiple images of a background quasar is essential to any subsequent modeling, whether related to the determination of the Hubble constant H_0 or to the mass profile of the lensin g galaxy. We present the results of our ongoing spectroscopic observations of gravitationally lensed quasars in order to measure the redshift of their lensing galaxies. We report on the determination of the lens redshift in seven gravitationally lensed systems. Methods: Our deep VLT/FORS1 spectra are spatially deconvolved in order to separate the spectrum of the lensing galaxies from the glare of the much brighter quasar images. Our observing strategy involves observations in Multi-Object-Spectroscopy (MOS) mode which allows the simultaneous observation of the target and of several crucial PSF and flux calibration stars. The advantage of this method over traditional long-slit observations is that it allows a much more reliable extraction and flux calibration of the spectra. Results: We obtain the first reliable spectra of the lensing galaxies in six lensed quasars: FBQ 0951+2635 (z=0.260), BRI 0952-0115 (z=0.632), HE 2149-2745 (z=0.603), Q 0142-100 (z=0.491), SDSS J0246-0825 (z=0.723), and SDSS J0806+2006 (z=0.573). The last 3 redshifts also correspond to the MgII doublet seen in absorption in the quasar spectra at the lens redshift. Our spectroscopic redshifts of HE 2149-2745 and FBQ 0951+2635 are higher than previously reported, which means that H_0 estimates from these two systems must be revised to higher values. Finally, we reanalyse our spectra of Q 1355-2257 and find MgII in absorption at z=0.702, confirming our previous redshift estimate. The spectra of all lenses are typical of early-type galaxies.
The discoveries of 17 microlensing event candidates have been reported over the last year by three teams conducting unprecedented mass photometric searches in the direction of the Galactic bulge and the Magellanic Clouds. These include 10 events foun d by the OGLE collaboration, 5 by the MACHO team and 2 by the EROS team. All searches have the main goal to detect dark matter in our Galaxy. The detection of 17 event candidates proves that the microlensing is a powerful tool in the search for dark matter, and it may be used for reliable mass determination when the geometry of the event is known. Here we present the first microlensing event, OGLE~#11, discovered in real time, using the newly implemented Early Warning System. We describe our system which makes it possible to monitor and study in great details any very rare phenomena, not only lensing events, with a broad array of instruments almost immediately after they have changed their brightness.
