We discuss fluctuation-induced forces in a system described by a continuous Landau-Ginzburg model with a quenched disorder field, defined in a $d$-dimensional slab geometry $mathbb R^{d-1}times[0,L]$. A series representation for the quenched free energy in terms of the moments of the partition function is presented. In each moment an order parameter-like quantity can be defined, with a particular correlation length of the fluctuations. For some specific strength of the non-thermal control parameter, it appears a moment of the partition function where the fluctuations associated to the order parameter-like quantity becomes long-ranged. In this situation, these fluctuations become sensitive to the boundaries. In the Gaussian approximation, using the spectral zeta-function method, we evaluate a functional determinant for each moment of the partition function. The analytic structure of each spectral zeta-function depending on the dimension of the space for the case of Dirichlet, Neumann Laplacian and also periodic boundary conditions is discussed in a unified way. Considering the moment of the partition function with the largest correlation length of the fluctuations, we evaluate the induced force between the boundaries, for Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove that the sign of the fluctuation-induced force for this case depend in a non-trivial way on the strength of the non-thermal control parameter.

Along with experiments, numerical simulations are key to gaining insight into the underlying mechanisms governing domain wall motion in thin ferromagnetic systems. However, a direct comparison between numerical simulation of model systems and experim ental results still represents a great challenge. Here, we present a tuned Ginzburg-Landau model to quantitatively study the dynamics of domain walls in quasi two-dimensional ferromagnetic systems with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. This model incorporates material and experimental parameters and the micromagnetic prescription for thermal fluctuations, allowing us to perform material-specific simulations and at the same time recover universal features. We show that our model quantitatively reproduces previous experimental velocity-field data in the archetypal perpendicular magnetic anisotropy Pt/Co/Pt ultra-thin films in the three dynamical regimes of domain wall motion (creep, depinning and flow). In addition, we present a statistical analysis of the domain wall width parameter, showing that our model can provide detailed nano-scale information while retaining the complex behavior of a statistical disordered model.
We study the stochastic dynamics of an electrolyte driven by a uniform external electric field and show that it exhibits generic scale invariance despite the presence of Debye screening. The resulting long-range correlations give rise to a Casimir-li ke fluctuation-induced force between neutral boundaries that confine the ions; this force is controlled by the external electric field, and it can be both attractive and repulsive with similar boundary conditions, unlike other long-range fluctuation-induced forces. This work highlights the importance of nonequilibrium correlations in electrolytes and shows how they can be used to tune interactions between uncharged biological or synthetic structures at large separations.
In this paper we investigate bubble nucleation in a disordered Landau-Ginzburg model. First we adopt the standard procedure to average over the disordered free energy. This quantity is represented as a series of the replica partition functions of the system. Using the saddle-point equations in each replica partition function, we discuss the presence of a spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism. The leading term of the series is given by a large-N Euclidean replica field theory. Next, we consider finite temperature effects. Below some critical temperature, there are N real instantons-like solutions in the model. The transition from the false to the true vacuum for each replica field is given by the nucleation of a bubble of the true vacuum. In order to describe these irreversible processes of multiple nucleation, going beyond the diluted instanton approximation, an effective model is constructed, with one single mode of a bosonic field interacting with a reservoir of N identical two-level systems.

The Haldane-Shastry model is one of the most studied interacting spin systems. The Yangian symmetry makes it exactly solvable, and the model has semionic excitations. We introduce disorder into the Haldane-Shastry model by allowing the spins to sit a t random positions on the unit circle and study the properties of the eigenstates. At weak disorder, the spectrum is similar to the spectrum of the clean Haldane-Shastry model. At strong disorder, the long-range interactions in the model do not decay as a simple power law. The eigenstates in the middle of the spectrum follow a volume law, but the coefficient is small, and the entropy is hence much less than for an ergodic system. In addition, the energy level spacing statistics is neither Poissonian nor of the Wigner-Dyson type. The behavior at strong disorder hence serves as an example of a non-ergodic phase, which is not of the many-body localized kind, in a model with long-range interactions and SU(2) symmetry.
We investigate the stability of an Anderson localized chain to the inclusion of a single finite interacting thermal seed. This system models the effects of rare low-disorder regions on many-body localized chains. Above a threshold value of the mean l ocalization length, the seed causes runaway thermalization in which a finite fraction of the orbitals are absorbed into a thermal bubble. This `partially avalanched regime provides a simple example of a delocalized, non-ergodic dynamical phase. We derive the hierarchy of length scales necessary for typical samples to exhibit the avalanche instability, and show that the required seed size diverges at the avalanche threshold. We introduce a new dimensionless statistic that measures the effective size of the thermal bubble, and use it to numerically confirm the predictions of avalanche theory in the Anderson chain at infinite temperature.
