As a model-independent generic feature of string moduli, we find that their derivative interactions make them decay into (pseudo) Nambu-Goldstone bosons (NGBs) without suppression by the mass of decay products. Combining this feature with the fact that moduli decay well after spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking, we show that the decay into the longitudinal weak gauge bosons is generally dominant, recovering the standard hot big bang universe. Further, interestingly, as a natural consequence of non-suppression of axionic decay modes, an observable amount of dark radiation is expected in any extension of the Standard Model that includes a cosmologically stable NGB such as the QCD axion. In such extensions, the fermionic superpartner of the NGB can also contribute to the dark matter as a feebly interacting massive particle.
Many models of supersymmetry breaking, in the context of either supergravity or superstring theories, predict the presence of particles with Planck-suppressed couplings and masses around the weak scale. These particles are generically called moduli.
Axion-like particles with masses in the keV-GeV range have a profound impact on the cosmological evolution of our Universe, in particular on the abundance of light elements produced during Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. The resulting limits are complement
We present results of new field-theoretic simulation of cosmological axion strings, which are eight times longer than previous ones. We have upgraded our simulation of physical strings in Hiramatsu et al. (2011) in terms of the number of grids as wel
We study early and late time signatures of both QCD axion strings and hyperlight axion strings (axiverse strings). We focus on charge deposition onto axion strings from electromagnetic fields and subsequent novel neutralizing mechanisms due to bound
We analyze the quantum-corrected moduli space of D7-brane position moduli with special emphasis on inflationary model building. D7-brane deformation moduli are key players in two recently proposed inflationary scenarios: The first, D7-brane chaotic i
