In multi-speaker speech synthesis, data from a number of speakers usually tends to have great diversity due to the fact that the speakers may differ largely in their ages, speaking styles, speeds, emotions, and so on. The diversity of data will lead to the one-to-many mapping problem cite{Ren2020FastSpeech2F, Kumar2020FewSA}. It is important but challenging to improve the modeling capabilities for multi-speaker speech synthesis. To address the issue, this paper researches into the effective use of control information such as speaker and pitch which are differentiated from text-content information in our encoder-decoder framework: 1) Design a representation of harmonic structure of speech, called excitation spectrogram, from pitch and energy. The excitation spectrogrom is, along with the text-content, fed to the decoder to guide the learning of harmonics of mel-spectrogram. 2) Propose conditional gated LSTM (CGLSTM) whose input/output/forget gates are re-weighted by speaker embedding to control the flow of text-content information in the network. The experiments show significant reduction in reconstruction errors of mel-spectrogram in the training of multi-speaker generative model, and a great improvement is observed in the subjective evaluation of speaker adapted model, e.g, the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) of intelligibility increases by 0.81 points.

The cross-speaker emotion transfer task in TTS particularly aims to synthesize speech for a target speaker with the emotion transferred from reference speech recorded by another (source) speaker. During the emotion transfer process, the identity info rmation of the source speaker could also affect the synthesized results, resulting in the issue of speaker leakage. This paper proposes a new method with the aim to synthesize controllable emotional expressive speech and meanwhile maintain the target speakers identity in the cross-speaker emotion TTS task. The proposed method is a Tacotron2-based framework with the emotion embedding as the conditioning variable to provide emotion information. Two emotion disentangling modules are contained in our method to 1) get speaker-independent and emotion-discriminative embedding, and 2) explicitly constrain the emotion and speaker identity of synthetic speech to be that as expected. Moreover, we present an intuitive method to control the emotional strength in the synthetic speech for the target speaker. Specifically, the learned emotion embedding is adjusted with a flexible scalar value, which allows controlling the emotion strength conveyed by the embedding. Extensive experiments have been conducted on a Mandarin disjoint corpus, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method is able to synthesize reasonable emotional speech for the target speaker. Compared to the state-of-the-art reference embedding learned methods, our method gets the best performance on the cross-speaker emotion transfer task, indicating that our method achieves the new state-of-the-art performance on learning the speaker-independent emotion embedding. Furthermore, the strength ranking test and pitch trajectories plots demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively control the emotion strength, leading to prosody-diverse synthetic speech.
Text-to-speech (TTS) acoustic models map linguistic features into an acoustic representation out of which an audible waveform is generated. The latest and most natural TTS systems build a direct mapping between linguistic and waveform domains, like S ampleRNN. This way, possible signal naturalness losses are avoided as intermediate acoustic representations are discarded. Another important dimension of study apart from naturalness is their adaptability to generate voice from new speakers that were unseen during training. In this paper we first propose the use of problem-agnostic speech embeddings in a multi-speaker acoustic model for TTS based on SampleRNN. This way we feed the acoustic model with speaker acoustically dependent representations that enrich the waveform generation more than discrete embeddings unrelated to these factors. Our first results suggest that the proposed embeddings lead to better quality voices than those obtained with discrete embeddings. Furthermore, as we can use any speech segment as an encoded representation during inference, the model is capable to generalize to new speaker identities without retraining the network. We finally show that, with a small increase of speech duration in the embedding extractor, we dramatically reduce the spectral distortion to close the gap towards the target identities.
Expressive neural text-to-speech (TTS) systems incorporate a style encoder to learn a latent embedding as the style information. However, this embedding process may encode redundant textual information. This phenomenon is called content leakage. Rese archers have attempted to resolve this problem by adding an ASR or other auxiliary supervision loss functions. In this study, we propose an unsupervised method called the information sieve to reduce the effect of content leakage in prosody transfer. The rationale of this approach is that the style encoder can be forced to focus on style information rather than on textual information contained in the reference speech by a well-designed downsample-upsample filter, i.e., the extracted style embeddings can be downsampled at a certain interval and then upsampled by duplication. Furthermore, we used instance normalization in convolution layers to help the system learn a better latent style space. Objective metrics such as the significantly lower word error rate (WER) demonstrate the effectiveness of this model in mitigating content leakage. Listening tests indicate that the model retains its prosody transferability compared with the baseline models such as the original GST-Tacotron and ASR-guided Tacotron.
Most speech separation methods, trying to separate all channel sources simultaneously, are still far from having enough general- ization capabilities for real scenarios where the number of input sounds is usually uncertain and even dynamic. In this w ork, we employ ideas from auditory attention with two ears and propose a speaker and direction inferred speech separation network (dubbed SDNet) to solve the cocktail party problem. Specifically, our SDNet first parses out the respective perceptual representations with their speaker and direction characteristics from the mixture of the scene in a sequential manner. Then, the perceptual representations are utilized to attend to each corresponding speech. Our model gener- ates more precise perceptual representations with the help of spatial features and successfully deals with the problem of the unknown number of sources and the selection of outputs. The experiments on standard fully-overlapped speech separation benchmarks, WSJ0- 2mix, WSJ0-3mix, and WSJ0-2&3mix, show the effectiveness, and our method achieves SDR improvements of 25.31 dB, 17.26 dB, and 21.56 dB under anechoic settings. Our codes will be released at https://github.com/aispeech-lab/SDNet.
This paper introduces a multi-scale speech style modeling method for end-to-end expressive speech synthesis. The proposed method employs a multi-scale reference encoder to extract both the global-scale utterance-level and the local-scale quasi-phonem e-level style features of the target speech, which are then fed into the speech synthesis model as an extension to the input phoneme sequence. During training time, the multi-scale style model could be jointly trained with the speech synthesis model in an end-to-end fashion. By applying the proposed method to style transfer task, experimental results indicate that the controllability of the multi-scale speech style model and the expressiveness of the synthesized speech are greatly improved. Moreover, by assigning different reference speeches to extraction of style on each scale, the flexibility of the proposed method is further revealed.
