Kagome metals AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) exhibit superconductivity at 0.9-2.5 K and charge-density wave (CDW) at 78-103 K. Key electronic states associated with the CDW and superconductivity remain elusive. Here, we investigate low-energy excitations of CsV3Sb5 by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We found an energy gap of 70-100 meV at the Dirac-crossing points of linearly dispersive bands, pointing to an importance of spin-orbit coupling. We also found a signature of strongly Fermi-surface and momentum-dependent CDW gap characterized by the larger energy gap of maximally 70 meV for a band forming a saddle point around the M point, the smaller (0-18 meV) gap for a band forming massive Dirac cones, and a zero gap at the Gamma-centered electron pocket. The observed highly anisotropic CDW gap which is enhanced around the M point signifies an importance of scattering channel connecting the saddle points, laying foundation for understanding the nature of CDW and superconductivity in AV3Sb5.

Recently discovered Z2 topological kagome metals AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) exhibit charge density wave (CDW) phases and novel superconducting paring states, providing a versatile platform for studying the interplay between electron correlation and q uantum orders. Here we directly visualize CDW-induced bands renormalization and energy gaps in RbV3Sb5 using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, pointing to the key role of tuning van Hove singularities to the Fermi energy in mechanisms of ordering phases. Near the CDW transition temperature, the bands around the Brillouin zone (BZ) boundary are shifted to high-binding energy, forming an M-shape band with singularities near the Fermi energy. The Fermi surfaces are partially gapped and the electronic states on the residual ones should be possibly dedicated to the superconductivity. Our findings are significant in understanding CDW formation and its associated superconductivity.

Superconductivity in topological kagome metals has recently received great research interests. Here, charge density wave (CDW) orders and the evolution of superconductivity under various pressures in CsV3Sb5 single crystal with V kagome lattice are i nvestigated. By using high-resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy /spectroscopy (STM/STS), two CDW orders in CsV3Sb5 are observed which correspond to 4a*1a and 2a*2a superlattices. By applying pressure, the superconducting transition temperature Tc is significantly enhanced and reaches a maximum value of 8.2 K at around 1 GPa. Accordingly, CDW state is gradually declined as increasing the pressure, which indicates the competing interplay between CDW and superconducting state in this material. The broad superconducting transitions around 0.4 - 0.8 GPa can be related to the strong competition relation among two CDW states and superconductivity. These results demonstrate that CsV3Sb5 is a new platform for exploring the interplay between superconductivity and CDW in topological kagome metals.

Neutron scattering experiments were performed to investigate magnetic order and magnetic excitations in ternary iron chalcogenide K2Fe4Se5. The formation of a superlattice structure below 580 K together with the decoupling between the Fe-vacancy orde r-disorder transition and the antiferromagnetic order transition appears to be a common feature in the A2Fe4Se5 family. The study of spin dynamics of K2Fe4Se5 reveals two distinct energy gaps at the magnetic Brillouin zone center, which indicates the presence of magnetic anisotropy and the decrease of local symmetry due to electronic and orbital anisotropy. The low-energy spin wave excitations of K2Fe4Se5 can be properly described by linear spin wave theory within a Heisenberg model. Compared to iron pnictides, K2Fe4Se5 exhibits a more two-dimensional magnetism as characterized by large differences not only between out-of-plane and in-plane spin wave velocities, but also between out-of-plane and in-plane exchange interactions.

Recently superconductivity and topological charge-density wave (CDW) were discovered in the Kagome metals $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ ($A$ = Cs, Rb, and K), which have an ideal Kagome lattice of vanadium. Here we report resistance measurements on thin flakes of C sV$_3$Sb$_5$ to investigate the evolution of superconductivity and CDW with sample thickness. The CDW transition temperature ${it T}_{rm CDW}$ decreases from 94 K in bulk to a minimum of 82 K at thickness of 60 nm, then increases to 120 K as the thickness is reduced further to 4.8 nm (about five monolayers). Since the CDW order in CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ is quite three-dimensional (3D) in the bulk sample, the non-monotonic evolution of ${it T}_{rm CDW}$ with reducing sample thickness can be explained by a 3D to 2D crossover around 60 nm. Strikingly, the superconducting transition temperature ${it T}_{rm c}$ shows an exactly opposite evolution, increasing from 3.64 K in the bulk to a maximum of 4.28 K at thickness of 60 nm, then decreasing to 0.76 K at 4.8 nm. Such exactly opposite evolutions provide strong evidence for competing superconductivity and CDW, which helps us to understand these exotic phases in $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ Kagome metals.
The cuprate high temperature superconductors develop spontaneous charge density wave (CDW) order below a temperature $T_{CDW}$ and over a wide range of hole doping (p). An outstanding challenge in the field is to understand whether this modulated pha se is related to the more exhaustively studied pseudogap and superconducting phases. To address this issue it is important to extract the energy scale $Delta_{CDW}$ associated with the charge modulations, and to compare it with the pseudogap (PG) $Delta_{PG}$ and the superconducting gap $Delta_{SC}$. However, while $T_{CDW}$ is well-characterized from earlier works little has been known about $Delta_{CDW}$ until now. Here, we report the extraction of $Delta_{CDW}$ for several cuprates using electronic Raman spectroscopy. Crucially, we find that, upon approaching the parent Mott state by lowering $p$, $Delta_{CDW}$ increases in a manner similar to the doping dependence of $Delta_{PG}$ and $Delta_{SC}$. This shows that CDW is an unconventional order, and that the above three phases are controlled by the same electronic correlations. In addition, we find that $Delta_{CDW} approx Delta_{SC}$ over a substantial doping range, which is suggestive of an approximate emergent symmetry connecting the charge modulated phase with superconductivity.
