This short paper is based on Chung et al. (2010), where the cosine series representation (CSR) is used in modeling the shape of white matter fiber tracts in diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) and Wang et al. (2018), where the method is used to denoise EEG. The proposed explicit analytic approach offers far superior flexibility in statistical modeling compared to the usual implicit Fourier transform methods such as the discrete cosine transforms often used in signal processing. The MATLAB codes and sample data can be obtained from http://brainimaging.waisman.wisc.edu/~chung/tracts.

By integrating a series provided by Knopp, a series representation of the Euler-Mascheroni constant arises. The infinite sum representation of {gamma} is determined through Fourier series (sawtooth wave).
Binary grid mask representation is broadly used in instance segmentation. A representative instantiation is Mask R-CNN which predicts masks on a $28times 28$ binary grid. Generally, a low-resolution grid is not sufficient to capture the details, whil e a high-resolution grid dramatically increases the training complexity. In this paper, we propose a new mask representation by applying the discrete cosine transform(DCT) to encode the high-resolution binary grid mask into a compact vector. Our method, termed DCT-Mask, could be easily integrated into most pixel-based instance segmentation methods. Without any bells and whistles, DCT-Mask yields significant gains on different frameworks, backbones, datasets, and training schedules. It does not require any pre-processing or pre-training, and almost no harm to the running speed. Especially, for higher-quality annotations and more complex backbones, our method has a greater improvement. Moreover, we analyze the performance of our method from the perspective of the quality of mask representation. The main reason why DCT-Mask works well is that it obtains a high-quality mask representation with low complexity. Code is available at https://github.com/aliyun/DCT-Mask.git.
The R package quantreg.nonpar implements nonparametric quantile regression methods to estimate and make inference on partially linear quantile models. quantreg.nonpar obtains point estimates of the conditional quantile function and its derivatives ba sed on series approximations to the nonparametric part of the model. It also provides pointwise and uniform confidence intervals over a region of covariate values and/or quantile indices for the same functions using analytical and resampling methods. This paper serves as an introduction to the package and displays basic functionality of the functions contained within.

We present an alternative formula to price European options through cosine series expansions, under models with a known characteristic function such as the Heston stochastic volatility model. It is more robust across strikes and as fast as the original COS method.
There is a large number of data archives and web services offering free access to multispectral satellite imagery. Images from multiple sources are increasingly combined to improve the spatio-temporal coverage of measurements while achieving more acc urate results. Archives and web services differ in their protocols, formats, and data standards, which are barriers to combine datasets. Here, we present RGISTools, an R package to create time-series of multispectral satellite images from multiple platforms in a harmonized and standardized way. We first provide an overview of the package functionalities, namely downloading, customizing, and processing multispectral satellite imagery for a region and time period of interest as well as a recent statistical method for gap-filling and smoothing series of images, called interpolation of the mean anomalies. We further show the capabilities of the package through a case study that combines Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 satellite optical imagery to estimate the level of a water reservoir in Northern Spain. We expect RGISTools to foster research on data fusion and spatio-temporal modelling using satellite images from multiple programs.
