In this paper, a novel learning-based network, named DeepDT, is proposed to reconstruct the surface from Delaunay triangulation of point cloud. DeepDT learns to predict inside/outside labels of Delaunay tetrahedrons directly from a point cloud and corresponding Delaunay triangulation. The local geometry features are first extracted from the input point cloud and aggregated into a graph deriving from the Delaunay triangulation. Then a graph filtering is applied on the aggregated features in order to add structural regularization to the label prediction of tetrahedrons. Due to the complicated spatial relations between tetrahedrons and the triangles, it is impossible to directly generate ground truth labels of tetrahedrons from ground truth surface. Therefore, we propose a multi-label supervision strategy which votes for the label of a tetrahedron with labels of sampling locations inside it. The proposed DeepDT can maintain abundant geometry details without generating overly complex surfaces, especially for inner surfaces of open scenes. Meanwhile, the generalization ability and time consumption of the proposed method is acceptable and competitive compared with the state-of-the-art methods. Experiments demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed DeepDT.

We present a method for reconstructing triangle meshes from point clouds. Existing learning-based methods for mesh reconstruction mostly generate triangles individually, making it hard to create manifold meshes. We leverage the properties of 2D Delau nay triangulations to construct a mesh from manifold surface elements. Our method first estimates local geodesic neighborhoods around each point. We then perform a 2D projection of these neighborhoods using a learned logarithmic map. A Delaunay triangulation in this 2D domain is guaranteed to produce a manifold patch, which we call a Delaunay surface element. We synchronize the local 2D projections of neighboring elements to maximize the manifoldness of the reconstructed mesh. Our results show that we achieve better overall manifoldness of our reconstructed meshes than current methods to reconstruct meshes with arbitrary topology. We present an algorithm for producing Delaunay triangulations of manifolds. The algorithm can accommodate abstract manifolds that are not presented as submanifolds of Euclidean space. Given a set of sample points and an atlas on a compact manifold, a manifold Delaunay complex is produced provided the transition functions are bi-Lipschitz with a constant close to 1, and the sample points meet a local density requirement; no smoothness assumptions are required. If the transition functions are smooth, the output is a triangulation of the manifold. The output complex is naturally endowed with a piecewise flat metric which, when the original manifold is Riemannian, is a close approximation of the original Riemannian metric. In this case the ouput complex is also a Delaunay triangulation of its vertices with respect to this piecewise flat metric.
Delaunay triangulation is a well-known geometric combinatorial optimization problem with various applications. Many algorithms can generate Delaunay triangulation given an input point set, but most are nontrivial algorithms requiring an understanding of geometry or the performance of additional geometric operations, such as the edge flip. Deep learning has been used to solve various combinatorial optimization problems; however, generating Delaunay triangulation based on deep learning remains a difficult problem, and very few research has been conducted due to its complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel deep-learning-based approach for learning Delaunay triangulation using a new attention mechanism based on self-attention and domain knowledge. The proposed model is designed such that the model efficiently learns point-to-point relationships using self-attention in the encoder. In the decoder, a new attention score function using domain knowledge is proposed to provide a high penalty when the geometric requirement is not satisfied. The strength of the proposed attention score function lies in its ability to extend its application to solving other combinatorial optimization problems involving geometry. When the proposed neural net model is well trained, it is simple and efficient because it automatically predicts the Delaunay triangulation for an input point set without requiring any additional geometric operations. We conduct experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and conclude that it exhibits better performance compared with other deep-learning-based approaches.
In this work we address the challenging problem of multiview 3D surface reconstruction. We introduce a neural network architecture that simultaneously learns the unknown geometry, camera parameters, and a neural renderer that approximates the light r eflected from the surface towards the camera. The geometry is represented as a zero level-set of a neural network, while the neural renderer, derived from the rendering equation, is capable of (implicitly) modeling a wide set of lighting conditions and materials. We trained our network on real world 2D images of objects with different material properties, lighting conditions, and noisy camera initializations from the DTU MVS dataset. We found our model to produce state of the art 3D surface reconstructions with high fidelity, resolution and detail.
Recent works on implicit neural representations have shown promising results for multi-view surface reconstruction. However, most approaches are limited to relatively simple geometries and usually require clean object masks for reconstructing complex and concave objects. In this work, we introduce a novel neural surface reconstruction framework that leverages the knowledge of stereo matching and feature consistency to optimize the implicit surface representation. More specifically, we apply a signed distance field (SDF) and a surface light field to represent the scene geometry and appearance respectively. The SDF is directly supervised by geometry from stereo matching, and is refined by optimizing the multi-view feature consistency and the fidelity of rendered images. Our method is able to improve the robustness of geometry estimation and support reconstruction of complex scene topologies. Extensive experiments have been conducted on DTU, EPFL and Tanks and Temples datasets. Compared to previous state-of-the-art methods, our method achieves better mesh reconstruction in wide open scenes without masks as input.
