Twisted van der Waals heterostructures have latterly received prominent attention for their many remarkable experimental properties, and the promise that they hold for realising elusive states of matter in the laboratory. We propose that these systems can, in fact, be used as a robust quantum simulation platform that enables the study of strongly correlated physics and topology in quantum materials. Among the features that make these materials a versatile toolbox are the tunability of their properties through readily accessible external parameters such as gating, straining, packing and twist angle; the feasibility to realize and control a large number of fundamental many-body quantum models relevant in the field of condensed-matter physics; and finally, the availability of experimental readout protocols that directly map their rich phase diagrams in and out of equilibrium. This general framework makes it possible to robustly realize and functionalize new phases of matter in a modular fashion, thus broadening the landscape of accessible physics and holding promise for future technological applications.

Condensed matter systems are potential candidates to realize the integration of quantum information circuits. Surface phonon polariton (SPhP) is a special propagation mode in condensed matter systems. We present an investigation on the entanglement o f SPhP modes. The entangled pairs are generated from entangled photons injected to the system. Quantum performances of entangled SPhPs are investigated by using the interaction Hamiltonian and the perturbation theory. The wave mechanics approach is taken to describe the coupling process as a comparison. Finally, the correlation of system is examined. A whole set of descriptions of SPhP entanglement thus are presented.
Motivated by far-reaching applications ranging from quantum simulations of complex processes in physics and chemistry to quantum information processing, a broad effort is currently underway to build large-scale programmable quantum systems. Such syst ems provide unique insights into strongly correlated quantum matter, while at the same time enabling new methods for computation and metrology. Here, we demonstrate a programmable quantum simulator based on deterministically prepared two-dimensional arrays of neutral atoms, featuring strong interactions controlled via coherent atomic excitation into Rydberg states. Using this approach, we realize a quantum spin model with tunable interactions for system sizes ranging from 64 to 256 qubits. We benchmark the system by creating and characterizing high-fidelity antiferromagnetically ordered states, and demonstrate the universal properties of an Ising quantum phase transition in (2+1) dimensions. We then create and study several new quantum phases that arise from the interplay between interactions and coherent laser excitation, experimentally map the phase diagram, and investigate the role of quantum fluctuations. Offering a new lens into the study of complex quantum matter, these observations pave the way for investigations of exotic quantum phases, non-equilibrium entanglement dynamics, and hardware-efficient realization of quantum algorithms.
A remarkable feature of quantum many-body systems is the orthogonality catastrophe which describes their extensively growing sensitivity to local perturbations and plays an important role in condensed matter physics. Here we show that the dynamics of the orthogonality catastrophe can be fully characterized by the quantum speed limit and, more specifically, that any quenched quantum many-body system whose variance in ground state energy scales with the system size exhibits the orthogonality catastrophe. Our rigorous findings are demonstrated by two paradigmatic classes of many-body systems -- the trapped Fermi gas and the long-range interacting Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick spin model.
Van der Waals materials can be easily combined in lateral and vertical heterostructures, providing an outstanding platform to engineer elusive quantum states of matter. However, a critical problem in material science is to establish tangible links be tween real materials properties and terms that can be cooked up on the model Hamiltonian level to realize different exotic phenomena. Our review aims to do precisely this: we first discuss, in a way accessible to the materials community, what ingredients need to be included in the hybrid quantum materials recipe, and second, we elaborate on the specific materials that would possess the necessary qualities. We will review the well-established procedures for realizing 2D topological superconductors, quantum spin-liquids and flat bands systems, emphasizing the connection between well-known model Hamiltonians and real compounds. We will use the most recent experimental results to illustrate the power of the designer approach.
quantum system interacting with other quantum systems experiences these other systems asan effective environment. The environment is the result of integrating out all the other degrees of freedom in the network, and can be represented by a Feynman-Ve rnon influence functional (IF)acting on system of interest. A network is characterized by the constitutive systems, how they interact, and the topology of those interactions. Here we show that for networks having the topology of locally tree-like graphs, the Feynman-Vernon influence functional can be determined in a new version of the cavity or Belief Propagation (BP) method. In the BP update stage, cavity IFs are mapped to cavity IFs, while in the BP output stage cavity IFs are combined to output IFs. We compute the fixed point of of this version of BP for harmonic oscillator systems interacting uniformly. We discuss Replica Symmetry and the effects of disorder in this context.
