Extended Reality (XR)-aided teleoperation has shown its potential in improving operating efficiency in mission-critical, rich-information and complex scenarios. The multi-sensory XR devices introduce several new types of traffic with unique quality-of-service (QoS) requirements, which are usually defined by three measures---human perception, corresponding sensors, and present devices. To fulfil these requirements, cellular-supported wireless connectivity can be a promising solution that can largely benefit the Robot-to-XR and the XR-to-Robot links. In this article, we present industrial and piloting use cases and identify the service bottleneck of each case. We then cover the QoS of Robot-XR and XR-Robot links by summarizing the sensors parameters and processing procedures. To realise these use cases, we introduce potential solutions for each case with cellular connections. Finally, we build testbeds to investigate the effectiveness of supporting our proposed links using current wireless topologies.

In this paper, we present a multimodal mobile teleoperation system that consists of a novel vision-based hand pose regression network (Transteleop) and an IMU-based arm tracking method. Transteleop observes the human hand through a low-cost depth cam era and generates not only joint angles but also depth images of paired robot hand poses through an image-to-image translation process. A keypoint-based reconstruction loss explores the resemblance in appearance and anatomy between human and robotic hands and enriches the local features of reconstructed images. A wearable camera holder enables simultaneous hand-arm control and facilitates the mobility of the whole teleoperation system. Network evaluation results on a test dataset and a variety of complex manipulation tasks that go beyond simple pick-and-place operations show the efficiency and stability of our multimodal teleoperation system.

Open-access telescopes of all apertures are needed to operate a competitive and efficient national science program. While larger facilities contribute light-gathering power and angular resolution, smaller ones dominate for field of view, time-resolut ion, and especially, total available observing time, thereby enabling our entire, diversely-expert community. Smaller aperture telescopes therefore play a critical and indispensable role in advancing science. Thus, the divestment of NSF support for modest-aperture (1 - 4 m) public telescopes poses a serious threat to U.S. scientific leadership, which is compounded by the unknown consequences of the shift from observations driven by individual investigators to survey-driven science. Given the much higher cost efficiency and dramatic science returns for investments in modest aperture telescopes, it is hard to justify funding only the most expensive facilities. We therefore urge the Astro2020 panel to explicitly make the case for modest aperture facilities, and to recommend enhancing this funding stream to support and grow this critical component of the OIR System. Further study is urgently needed to prioritize the numerous exciting potential capabilities of smaller facilities, and to establish sustainable, long-term planning for the System.
Future beyond fifth-generation (B5G) and sixth-generation (6G) mobile communications will shift from facilitating interpersonal communications to supporting Internet of Everything (IoE), where intelligent communications with full integration of big d ata and artificial intelligence (AI) will play an important role in improving network efficiency and providing high-quality service. As a rapid evolving paradigm, the AI-empowered mobile communications demand large amounts of data acquired from real network environment for systematic test and verification. Hence, we build the worlds first true-data testbed for 5G/B5G intelligent network (TTIN), which comprises 5G/B5G on-site experimental networks, data acquisition & data warehouse, and AI engine & network optimization. In the TTIN, true network data acquisition, storage, standardization, and analysis are available, which enable system-level online verification of B5G/6G-orientated key technologies and support data-driven network optimization through the closed-loop control mechanism. This paper elaborates on the system architecture and module design of TTIN. Detailed technical specifications and some of the established use cases are also showcased.
After freezing the first phase of the fifth generation of wireless networks (5G) standardization, it finally goes live now and the rollout of the commercial launch (most in fixed 5G broadband services) and migration has been started. However, some ch allenges are arising in the deployment, integration of each technology, and the interoperability in the network of the communication service providers (CSPs). At the same time, the evolution of 5G is not clear and many questions arise such as whether 5G has long-term evolution or when 5G will change to a next-generation one. This paper provides long-term migration options and paths towards 5G considering many key factors such as the cost, local/national data traffic, marketing, and the standardization trends in the radio access network (RAN), the transport network (TN), the core network (CN), and E2E network. Moreover, we outline some 5G evolution road maps emphasizing on the technologies, standards, and service time lines. The proposed migration paths can be the answer to some CSPs concerns about how to do long-term migration to 5G and beyond.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) present a promising advanced technology that can enhance people life quality and smartness of cities dramatically and increase overall economic efficiency. UAVs have attained a significant interest in supporting many a pplications such as surveillance, agriculture, communication, transportation, pollution monitoring, disaster management, public safety, healthcare, and environmental preservation. Industry 4.0 applications are conceived of intelligent things that can automatically and collaboratively improve beyond 5G (B5G). Therefore, the Internet of Things (IoT) is required to ensure collaboration between the vast multitude of things efficiently anywhere in real-world applications that are monitored in real-time. However, many IoT devices consume a significant amount of energy when transmitting the collected data from surrounding environments. Due to a drones capability to fly closer to IoT, UAV technology plays a vital role in greening IoT by transmitting collected data to achieve a sustainable, reliable, eco-friendly Industry 4.0. This survey presents an overview of the techniques and strategies proposed recently to achieve green IoT using UAVs infrastructure for a reliable and sustainable smart world. This survey is different from other attempts in terms of concept, focus, and discussion. Finally, various use cases, challenges, and opportunities regarding green IoT using UAVs are presented.
