We evaluate the cross section for the pion induced Drell-Yan process in two different models of the pion light-front wave function, inspired by light-front holographic approaches. We obtain the valence quark distribution functions in those models, which after QCD evolution, are consistent with the experimental data from the E-0615 experiment at Fermilab. Supplemented by the parton distribution functions of the target nuclei, we obtain the cross section consistent with the experimental data for the $pi^-$ Nucleus $rightarrow {mu^+mu^-X}$ Drell-Yan process.

Many extension of the standard model contain an extra U(1) gauge group with a heavy Z gauge boson. Perhaps the most clear signal for such a Z would be a resonance in the invariant mass spectrum of the lepton pairs to which it decays. In the absence o f such a signal, experiments can set limits on the couplings of such a Z, using a standard formula from theory. We repeat its derivation and find that, unfortunately, the standard formula in the literature is a factor of 8 too small. We briefly explore the implication for existing experimental searches and encourage the high energy physics community to re-examine analyses that have used this formula.

During the INT-18-3 workshop, we presented an analysis of unpolarized Drell-Yan pair production in pion-nucleus scattering with a particular focus into the pion Transverse Momentum Distributions in view of the future Electron Ion Collider. The transv erse distributions of the pion calculated in a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio framework, with Pauli-Villars regularization, were used. The pion Transverse Momentum Distributions evolved up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy is then tested against the transverse momentum spectrum of dilepton pairs up to a transverse momentum of 2 GeV. We found a fair agreement with available pion-nucleus data. This contribution joins common efforts from the TMD and the pion structure communities for the Electron Ion Collider.

We extract the pion transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution by fitting the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the framework of TMD factorization. The analysis is done at the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) with proton TMD dist ribution and non-perturbative TMD evolution extracted earlier in the global fit. We observe the significant difference in the normalization of transverse momentum differential cross-section measured by E615 experiment and the theory prediction.
We present the resummed predictions for inclusive cross-section for Drell-Yan (DY) production as well as onshell $Z,W^pm$ productions at next-to-next-to-next-to leading logarithmic (N$^{3}$LL) accuracy. Using the standard techniques, we derive the $N $-dependent coefficients in the Mellin-$N$ space as well as the $N$-independent constants and match the resummed result through the minimal prescription matching procedure with that of existing next-to next-to leading order (NNLO). In addition to the standard $ln N$ exponentiation, we study the numerical impacts of exponentiating $N$-independent part of the soft function and the complete $bar{g}_0$ that appears in the resummed predictions in $N$ space. All the analytical pieces needed in these different approaches are extracted from the soft-virtual part of the inclusive cross section known to next-to-next-to-next-to leading order (N$^3$LO). We perform a detailed analysis on the scale and parton distribution function (PDF) variations and present predictions for the 13 TeV LHC for the neutral Drell-Yan process as well as onshell charged and neutral vector boson productions.

We present an analysis of unpolarized Drell-Yan pair production in pion-nucleus scattering with a particular focus into the pion dynamics. The study consists in analyzing the effect of the partonic longitudinal and, especially, transverse distributio ns of the pion in a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) framework, with Pauli-Villars regularization. In order to consistently take into account the QCD evolution effects, we have estimated the hadronic scale corresponding to the NJL models degrees of freedom through a minimization procedure at NLO: The NLO evolved pion distributions have been compared to rapidity differential Drell-Yan cross sections data. That hadronic scale so determined represents the only free parameter in our approach. The NJL transverse momentum PDF, evolved up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, is then tested against the transverse momentum spectrum of dilepton pairs up to a transverse momentum of 2 GeV. We found a fair agreement with available pion-nucleus data. We find sizable evolution effects on the shape of the distributions and on the generated average transverse momentum of the dilepton pair.
