We show that the density of indium islands on GaAs(111)A substrates have a non-monotonic, reentrant behavior as a function of the indium deposition temperature. The expected increase in the density with decreasing temperature, indeed, is observed only down to 160 {deg}C, where the indium islands undertake the expected liquid-to-solid phase transition. Further decreasing the temperature causes a sizeable reduction of the island density. An additional, reentrant increasing behavior is observed below 80 {deg}C. We attribute the above complex behavior to the liquid-solid phase transition and to the complex island-island interaction which takes place between crystalline islands in the presence of strain. Indium solid islands grown at temperatures below 160 {deg}C have a face-centered cubic crystal structure.

The magnetic properties of MnAs epilayers have been investigated for two different substrate orientations: GaAs(100) and GaAs(111). We have analyzed the magnetization reversal under magnetic field at low temperatures, determining the anisotropy of th e films. The results, based on the shape of the magnetization loops, suggest a domain movement mechanism for both types of samples. The temperature dependence of the coercivity of the films has been also examined, displaying a generic anomalous reentrant behavior at T$>$200 K. This feature is independent of the substrate orientation and films thickness and may be associated to the appearance of new pinning centers due to the nucleation of the $beta$-phase at high temperatures.
GaAs nanowires and GaAs/Fe3Si core/shell nanowire structures were grown by molecular-beam epitaxy on oxidized Si(111) substrates and characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The surfaces of the original GaAs NWs are completely covered by ma gnetic Fe3Si exhibiting nanofacets and an enhanced surface roughness compared to the bare GaAs NWs. Shell growth at a substrate temperature of T{S} = 200 {deg}C leads to regular nanofacetted Fe3Si shells. These facets, which lead to thickness inhomogeneities of the shells, consist mainly of well pronounced Fe3Si(111) planes. The crystallographic orientation of core and shell coincide, i.e. they are pseudomorphic. The nanofacetted Fe3Si shells found in the present work are probably the result of the Vollmer-Weber island growth mode of Fe3Si on the {110} side facets of the GaAs NWs.

We report the occurrence of reentrant metallic behavior in the Weyl semimetal NbP. When the applied magnetic field $H$ is above a critical value $H_c$, a reentrance appears as a peak in the temperature dependent resistivity $rho_{xx}(T)$ at $T$ = $T_ p$, similar to that observed in graphite where it was attributed to local superconductivity. The $T_p(H)$ relationship follows a power-law dependence $T_psim(H-H_c)^{1/v}$ where $v$ can be derived from the temperature dependence of the zero-field resistivity $rho_0(T) sim T^v$. From concurrent measurements of the transverse $rho_{xx}(T)$ and Hall $rho_{xy}(T)$ magnetoresistivities, we reveal a clear correlation between the rapidly increasing $rho_{xy}(T)$ and the occurrence of a peak in the $rho_{xx}(T)$ curve. Quantitative analysis indicates that the reentrant metallic behavior arises from the competition of the magneto conductivity $sigma_{xx}(T)$ with an additional component $Deltasigma_{xx}(T)=kappa_Hsigma_{xx}(T)$ where $kappa_H=[rho_{xy}(T)/rho_{xx}(T)]^2$ is the Hall factor. We find that the Hall factor ($kappa_H approx 0.4$) at peak temperature $T_p$ is nearly field-independent, leading to the observed $T_p(H)$ relationship. Furthermore, the reentrant metallic behavior in $rho_{xx}(T)$ also is reflected in the behavior of $rho_{xx}(H)$ that ranges from non-saturating at $T>70$ K to saturation at liquid helium temperatures. The latter can be explained with the magnetic field dependence of the Hall factor $kappa_H(H)$. Our studies demonstrate that a semiclassical theory can account for the anomalies in the magnetotransport phenomena of NbP without invoking an exotic mechanism.
Indium gallium nitride films with nanocolumnar microstructure were deposited with varying indium content and substrate temperatures using plasma-enhanced evaporation on amorphous SiO2 substrates. FESEM and XRD results are presented, showing that more crystalline nanocolumnar microstructures can be engineered at lower indium compositions. Nanocolumn diameter and packing factor (void fraction) was found to be highly dependent on substrate temperature, with thinner and more closely packed nanocolumns observed at lower substrate temperatures.
