We propose to use channel inversion power control (CIPC) to achieve one-way ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC), where only the transmission in one direction requires ultra reliability and low latency. Based on channel reciprocity, our proposed CIPC schemes guarantee the power of received signals to be a constant value $Q$, by varying the transmit signals and power, which relaxes the assumption of knowing channel state information (CSI) at the receiver. Thus, the CIPC schemes eliminate the overhead of CSI feedback, reduce communication latency, and explore the benefits of multiple antennas to significantly improve transmission reliability. We derive analytical expressions for the packet loss probability of the proposed CIPC schemes, based on which we determine a closed interval and a convex set for optimizing $Q$ in CIPC with imperfect and perfect channel reciprocities. Our results show that CIPC is an effective means to achieve one-way URLLC. For example, increasing the number of transmit antennas continuously improves reliability and reduces latency, which is a different conclusion from the system using traditional channel estimation and feedback mechanisms. The tradeoff among reliability, latency, and required resources (e.g., transmit antennas) is further revealed, which provides novel principles for designing one-way URLLC systems.

This paper provides the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) complimentary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) and average data rate of the normalized SNR-based scheduling in an uplink cellular network using stochastic geometry. The upl ink analysis is essentially different from the downlink analysis in that the per-user transmit power control is performed and that the interferers are composed of at most one transmitting user in each cell other than the target cell. In addition, as the effect of multi-user diversity varies from cell to cell depending on the number of users involved in the scheduling, the distribution of the number of users is required to obtain the averaged performance of the scheduling. This paper derives the SINR CCDF relative to the typical scheduled user by focusing on two incompatible cases, where the scheduler selects a user from all the users in the corresponding Voronoi cell or does not select users near cell edges. In each case, the SINR CCDF is marginalized over the distribution of the number of users involved in the scheduling, which is asymptotically correct if the BS density is sufficiently large or small. Through the simulations, the accuracies of the analytical results are validated for both cases, and the scheduling gains are evaluated to confirm the multi-user diversity gain.
Channel matrix sparsification is considered as a promising approach to reduce the progressing complexity in large-scale cloud-radio access networks (C-RANs) based on ideal channel condition assumption. In this paper, the research of channel sparsific ation is extend to practical scenarios, in which the perfect channel state information (CSI) is not available. First, a tractable lower bound of signal-to-interferenceplus-noise ratio (SINR) fidelity, which is defined as a ratio of SINRs with and without channel sparsification, is derived to evaluate the impact of channel estimation error. Based on the theoretical results, a Dinkelbach-based algorithm is proposed to achieve the global optimal performance of channel matrix sparsification based on the criterion of distance. Finally, all these results are extended to a more challenging scenario with pilot contamination. Finally, simulation results are shown to evaluate the performance of channel matrix sparsification with imperfect CSIs and verify our analytical results.
Channel reciprocity greatly facilitates downlink precoding in time-division duplexing (TDD) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications without the need for channel state information (CSI) feedback. Recently, reconfigurable intelligent surfa ces (RISs) emerge as a promising technology to enhance the performance of future wireless networks. However, since the artificial electromagnetic characteristics of RISs do not strictly follow the normal laws of nature, it brings up a question: does the channel reciprocity hold in RIS-assisted TDD wireless networks? After briefly reviewing the reciprocity theorem, in this article, we show that there still exists channel reciprocity for RIS-assisted wireless networks satisfying certain conditions. We also experimentally demonstrate the reciprocity at the sub-6 GHz and the millimeter-wave frequency bands by using two fabricated RISs. Furthermore, we introduce several RIS-assisted approaches to realizing nonreciprocal channels. Finally, potential opportunities brought by reciprocal/nonreciprocal RISs and future research directions are outlined.
Cognitive radios hold tremendous promise for increasing the spectral efficiency of wireless communication systems. In this paper, an adaptive bit allocation algorithm is presented for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) CR systems opera ting in a frequency selective fading environment. The algorithm maximizes the CR system throughput in the presence of narrowband interference, while guaranteeing a BER below a predefined threshold. The effect of imperfect channel estimation on the algorithms performance is also studied.

Information transmission over a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) fading channel with imperfect channel state information (CSI) is investigated, under a new receiver architecture which combines the recently proposed generalized nearest neighbor d ecoding rule (GNNDR) and a successive procedure in the spirit of successive interference cancellation (SIC). Recognizing that the channel input-output relationship is a nonlinear mapping under imperfect CSI, the GNNDR is capable of extracting the information embedded in the joint observation of channel output and imperfect CSI more efficiently than the conventional linear scheme, as revealed by our achievable rate analysis via generalized mutual information (GMI). Numerical results indicate that the proposed scheme achieves performance close to the channel capacity with perfect CSI, and significantly outperforms the conventional pilot-assisted scheme, which first estimates the CSI and then uses the estimated CSI as the true one for coherent decoding.
