Imaging through dense scattering media - such as biological tissue, fog, and smoke - has applications in the medical and robotics fields. We propose a new framework using automatic differentiation for All Photons Imaging through homogeneous scattering media with unknown optical properties for non-invasive sensing and diagnostics. We overcome the need for the imaging target to be visible to the illumination source in All Photons Imaging, enabling practical and non-invasive imaging through turbid media with a simple optical setup. Our method does not require calibration to acquire the sensor position or optical properties of the media.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquisition, reconstruction, and segmentation are usually processed independently in the conventional practice of MRI workflow. It is easy to notice that there are significant relevances among these tasks and this pro cedure artificially cuts off these potential connections, which may lead to losing clinically important information for the final diagnosis. To involve these potential relations for further performance improvement, a sequential multi-task joint learning network model is proposed to train a combined end-to-end pipeline in a differentiable way, aiming at exploring the mutual influence among those tasks simultaneously. Our design consists of three cascaded modules: 1) deep sampling pattern learning module optimizes the $k$-space sampling pattern with predetermined sampling rate; 2) deep reconstruction module is dedicated to reconstructing MR images from the undersampled data using the learned sampling pattern; 3) deep segmentation module encodes MR images reconstructed from the previous module to segment the interested tissues. The proposed model retrieves the latently interactive and cyclic relations among those tasks, from which each task will be mutually beneficial. The proposed framework is verified on MRB dataset, which achieves superior performance on other SOTA methods in terms of both reconstruction and segmentation.
Multispectral imaging systems (MISs) have been used widely to analyze adulteration and toxin formation in oil, yet a dearth of attention has been tendered to oil reheating and reusing despite the consumption of such debased oil being deleterious. To that end, the paper discusses the application of MISs to estimate the reheat cycle count classes (number of times an oil sample is recursively heated) and to identify critical classes at which substantial changes in the oil sample have materialized. The MIS captures the transmittance spectrum of the translucent specimen as opposed to other multispectral imaging research which often measures the reflected light from opaque solid samples. Firstly, the reheat cycle count class is estimated with Bhattacharyya distance between the reheated and a pure oil sample as the input. The classification was performed using a support vector machine classifier that resulted in an accuracy of 83.34 % for reheat cycle count identification. Subsequently, to distinguish critical classes under reheating, an unsupervised clustering procedure was introduced using a modified spectral clustering (SC) algorithm. In addition, laboratory experiments were performed to ascertain the ramifications of the reheating process with a chemical analysis. The chemical analysis of the coconut oil samples used in the experiment yielded that a statistically significant change (p < 0.05) had taken place in the chemical properties with reheating and the results of the proposed SC framework were deemed to coincide with the chemical analysis results.
We propose a 4D convolutional neural network (CNN) for the segmentation of retrospective ECG-gated cardiac CT, a series of single-channel volumetric data over time. While only a small subset of volumes in the temporal sequence is annotated, we define a sparse loss function on available labels to allow the network to leverage unlabeled images during training and generate a fully segmented sequence. We investigate the accuracy of the proposed 4D network to predict temporally consistent segmentations and compare with traditional 3D segmentation approaches. We demonstrate the feasibility of the 4D CNN and establish its performance on cardiac 4D CCTA.

Based on a class of associative algebras with zero-divisors which are called real-like algebras by us, we introduce a way of defining automatic differentiation and present different ways of doing automatic differentiation to compute the first, the se cond and the third derivatives of a function exactly and simultaneously.
Deep learning algorithms, in particular 2D and 3D fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs), have rapidly become the mainstream methodology for volumetric medical image segmentation. However, 2D convolutions cannot fully leverage the rich spatial in formation along the third axis, while 3D convolutions suffer from the demanding computation and high GPU memory consumption. In this paper, we propose to automatically search the network architecture tailoring to volumetric medical image segmentation problem. Concretely, we formulate the structure learning as differentiable neural architecture search, and let the network itself choose between 2D, 3D or Pseudo-3D (P3D) convolutions at each layer. We evaluate our method on 3 public datasets, i.e., the NIH Pancreas dataset, the Lung and Pancreas dataset from the Medical Segmentation Decathlon (MSD) Challenge. Our method, named V-NAS, consistently outperforms other state-of-the-arts on the segmentation task of both normal organ (NIH Pancreas) and abnormal organs (MSD Lung tumors and MSD Pancreas tumors), which shows the power of chosen architecture. Moreover, the searched architecture on one dataset can be well generalized to other datasets, which demonstrates the robustness and practical use of our proposed method.
