We propose a class of theories that can limit scalars constructed from the extrinsic curvature. Applied to cosmology, this framework allows us to control not only the Hubble parameter but also anisotropies without the problem of Ostrogradsky ghost, which is in sharp contrast to the case of limiting spacetime curvature scalars. Our theory can be viewed as a generalization of mimetic and cuscuton theories (thus clarifying their relation), which are known to possess a structure that limits only the Hubble parameter on homogeneous and isotropic backgrounds. As an application of our framework, we construct a model where both anisotropies and the Hubble parameter are kept finite at any stage in the evolution of the universe in the diagonal Bianchi type I setup. The universe starts from a constant-anisotropy phase and recovers Einstein gravity at low energies. We also show that the cosmological solution is stable against a wide class of perturbation wavenumbers, though instabilities may remain for arbitrary initial conditions.

We in this paper investigate the formation and evolution of primordial black holes (PBHs) in nonsingular bouncing cosmologies. We discuss the formation of PBH in the contracting phase and calculate the PBH abundance as a function of the sound speed a nd Hubble parameter. Afterwards, by taking into account the subsequent PBH evolution during the bouncing phase, we derive the density of PBHs and their Hawking radiation. Our analysis shows that nonsingular bounce models can be constrained from the backreaction of PBHs.

Embedding diagrams have been used extensively to visualize the properties of curved space in Relativity. We introduce a new kind of embedding diagram based on the {it extrinsic} curvature (instead of the intrinsic curvature). Such an extrinsic curvat ure embedding diagram, when used together with the usual kind of intrinsic curvature embedding diagram, carries the information of how a surface is {it embedded} in the higher dimensional curved space. Simple examples are given to illustrate the idea.
We study Kaluza-Klein cosmology in cuscuton gravity and find an exact solution describing an accelerating 4-dimensional universe with a stable extra dimension. A cuscuton which is a non-dynamical scalar field is responsible for the accelerating expan sion and a vector field makes the extra dimensional space stable. Remarkably, the accelerating universe in our model is not exactly de Sitter.
In this paper, we study a class of higher derivative, non-local gravity which admits homogeneous and isotropic non-singular, bouncing universes in the absence of matter. At the linearized level, the theory propagates only a scalar degree of freedom, and no vector or tensor modes. The scalar can be made free from perturbative ghost instabilities, and has oscillatory and bounded evolution across the bounce.
It is known than the inclusion of spatial curvature can modify the evolution of matter perturbations and affect the Large Scale Structure (LSS) formation. We quantify the effects of the non-zero space curvature in terms of LSS formation for a cosmolo gical model with a running vacuum energy density and a warm dark matter component. The evolution of density perturbations and the modified shape of its power spectrum are constructed and analyzed.
