The so-called Born-Huang ansatz is a fundamental tool in the context of ab-initio molecular dynamics, viz., it allows to effectively separate fast and slow degrees of freedom and thus treating electrons and nuclei at different mathematical footings. Here we consider the use of a Born-Huang-like expansion of the three-dimensional time-dependent Schrodinger equation to separate transport and confinement degrees of freedom in electron transport problems that involve geometrical constrictions. The resulting scheme consists of an eigenstate problem for the confinement degrees of freedom (in the transverse direction) whose solution constitutes the input for the propagation of a set of coupled one-dimensional equations of motion for the transport degree of freedom (in the longitudinal direction). This technique achieves quantitative accuracy using an order less computational resources than the full dimensional simulation for a prototypical two-dimensional constriction.

In this paper we analyze the existence, stability, dynamical formation and mobility properties of localized solutions in a one-dimensional system described by the discrete nonlinear Schr{o}dinger equation with a linear point defect. We consider both attractive and repulsive defects in a focusing lattice. Among our main findings are: a) the destabilization of the on--site mode centered at the defect in the repulsive case; b) the disappearance of localized modes in the vicinity of the defect due to saddle-node bifurcations for sufficiently strong defects of either type; c) the decrease of the amplitude formation threshold for attractive and its increase for repulsive defects; and d) the detailed elucidation as a function of initial speed and defect strength of the different regimes (trapping, trapping and reflection, pure reflection and pure transmission) of interaction of a moving localized mode with the defect.
A prominent tool to study the dynamics of open quantum systems is the reduced density matrix. Yet, approaching open quantum systems by means of state vectors has well known computational advantages. In this respect, the physical meaning of the so-cal led conditional states in Markovian and non-Markovian scenarios has been a topic of recent debate in the construction of stochastic Schr{o}dinger equations. We shed light on this discussion by acknowledging the Bohmian conditional wavefunction as the proper mathematical object to represent, in terms of state vectors, an arbitrary subset of degrees of freedom. As an example of the practical utility of these states, we present a time-dependent quantum Monte Carlo algorithm to describe electron transport in open quantum systems under general (Markovian or non-Markovian) conditions. By making the most of trajectory-based and wavefunction methods, the resulting simulation technique extends, to the quantum regime, the computational capabilities that the Monte Carlo solution of the Boltzmann transport equation offers for semi-classical electron devices.
In this paper, we study the existence and instability of standing waves with a prescribed $L^2$-norm for the fractional Schr{o}dinger equation begin{equation} ipartial_{t}psi=(-Delta)^{s}psi-f(psi), qquad (0.1)end{equation} where $0<s<1$, $f(psi)=|ps i|^{p}psi$ with $frac{4s}{N}<p<frac{4s}{N-2s}$ or $f(psi)=(|x|^{-gamma}ast|psi|^2)psi$ with $2s<gamma<min{N,4s}$. To this end, we look for normalized solutions of the associated stationary equation begin{equation} (-Delta)^s u+omega u-f(u)=0. qquad (0.2) end{equation} Firstly, by constructing a suitable submanifold of a $L^2$-sphere, we prove the existence of a normalized solution for (0.2) with least energy in the $L^2$-sphere, which corresponds to a normalized ground state standing wave of(0.1). Then, we show that each normalized ground state of (0.2) coincides a ground state of (0.2) in the usual sense. Finally, we obtain the sharp threshold of global existence and blow-up for (0.1). Moreover, we can use this sharp threshold to show that all normalized ground state standing waves are strongly unstable by blow-up.
Asymptotic reductions of a defocusing nonlocal nonlinear Schr{o}dinger model in $(3+1)$-dimensions, in both Cartesian and cylindrical geometry, are presented. First, at an intermediate stage, a Boussinesq equation is derived, and then its far-field, in the form of a variety of Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli (KP) equations for right- and left-going waves, is found. KP models includ

In this survey paper, we report on recent works concerning exact observability (and, by duality, exact controllability) properties of subelliptic wave and Schr{o}dinger-type equations. These results illustrate the slowdown of propagation in direction s transverse to the horizontal distribution. The proofs combine sub-Riemannian geometry, semi-classical analysis, spectral theory and non-commutative harmonic analysis.
