Spin-spin interactions generated by a detuned cavity are a standard mechanism for generating highly entangled spin squeezed states. We show here how introducing a weak detuned parametric (two-photon) drive on the cavity provides a powerful means for controlling the form of the induced interactions. Without a drive, the induced interactions cannot generate Heisenberg-limited spin squeezing, but a weak optimized drive gives rise to an ideal two-axis twist interaction and Heisenberg-limited squeezing. Parametric driving is also advantageous in regimes limited by dissipation, and enables an alternate adiabatic scheme which can prepare optimally squeezed, Dicke-like states. Our scheme is compatible with a number of platforms, including solid-state systems where spin ensembles are coupled to superconducting quantum circuits or mechanical modes.

High-precision frequency estimation is an ubiquitous issue in fundamental physics and a critical task in spectroscopy. Here, we propose a quantum Ramsey interferometry to realize high-precision frequency estimation in spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate via driving the system through quantum phase transitions(QPTs). In our scheme, we combine adiabatically driving the system through QPTs with {pi}/2 pulse to realize the initialization and recombination. Through adjusting the laser frequency under fixed evolution time, one can extract the transition frequency via the lock-in point. The lock-in point can be determined from the pattern of the population measurement. In particular, we find the measurement precision of frequency can approach to the Heisenberg-limited scaling. Moreover, the scheme is robust against detection noise and non-adiabatic effect. Our proposed scheme does not require single-particle resolved detection and is within the reach of current experiment techniques. Our study may point out a new way for high-precision frequency estimation.

Spin cat states are promising candidates for quantum-enhanced measurement. Here, we analytically show that the ultimate measurement precision of spin cat states approaches the Heisenberg limit, where the uncertainty is inversely proportional to the t otal particle number. In order to fully exploit their metrological ability, we propose to use the interaction-based readout for implementing phase estimation. It is demonstrated that the interaction-based readout enables spin cat states to saturate their ultimate precision bounds. The interaction-based readout comprises a one-axis twisting, two $frac{pi}{2}$ pulses, and a population measurement, which can be realized via current experimental techniques. Compared with the twisting echo scheme on spin squeezed states, our scheme with spin cat states is more robust against detection noise. Our scheme may pave an experimentally feasible way to achieve Heisenberg-limited metrology with non-Gaussian entangled states.
The use of entangled states was shown to improve the fundamental limits of spectroscopy to beyond the standard-quantum limit. In these Heisenberg-limited protocols the phase between two states in an entangled superposition evolves N-fold faster than in the uncorrelated case, where N for example can be the number of entangled atoms in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state. Here we propose and demonstrate the use of correlated spin-Hamiltonians for the realization of Heisenberg-limited Rabi-type spectroscopy. Rather than probing the free evolution of the phase of an entangled state with respect to a local oscillator (LO), we probe the evolution of an, initially separable, two-atom register under an Ising spin-Hamiltonian with a transverse field. The resulting correlated spin-rotation spectrum is twice as narrow as compared with uncorrelated rotation. We implement this Heisenberg-limited Rabi spectroscopy scheme on the optical-clock electric-quadrupole transition of $^{88}$Sr$^+$ using a two-ion crystal. We further show that depending on the initial state, correlated rotation can occur in two orthogonal sub-spaces of the full Hilbert space, yielding Heisenberg-limited spectroscopy of either the average transition frequency of the two ions or their difference from the mean frequency. The potential improvement of clock stability due to the use of entangled states depends on the details of the method used and the dominating decoherence mechanism. The use of correlated spin-rotations can therefore potentially lead to new paths for clock stability improvement.
Entangled atomic states, such as spin squeezed states, represent a promising resource for a new generation of quantum sensors and atomic clocks. We demonstrate that optimal control techniques can be used to substantially enhance the degree of spin sq ueezing in strongly interacting many-body systems, even in the presence of noise and imperfections. Specifically, we present a protocol that is robust to noise which outperforms conventional methods. Potential experimental implementations are discussed.

We propose an experimentally accessible superconducting quantum circuit, consisting of two coplanar waveguide resonators (CWRs), to enhance the microwave squeezing via parametric down-conversion (PDC). In our scheme, the two CWRs are nonlinearly coup led through a superconducting quantum interference device embedded in one of the CWRs. This is equivalent to replacing the transmission line in a flux-driven Josephson parametric amplifier (JPA) by a CWR, which makes it possible to drive the JPA by a quantized microwave field. Owing to this design, the PDC coefficient can be considerably increased to be about tens of megahertz, satisfying the strong-coupling condition. Using the Heisenberg-Langevin approach, we numerically show the enhancement of the microwave squeezing in our scheme. In contrast to the JPA, our proposed system becomes stable around the critical point and can generate stronger transient squeezing. In addition, the strong-coupling PDC can be used to engineer the photon blockade.
